NATIONAL LEAGUE
San Diego 6 – PITTSBURGH 2… Wil Meyers went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and five RBIs. Padres starter Yu Darvish (1-0) allowed just a run on three hits over seven innings.
Miami 5 – ATLANTA 3 (10 innings)… Garret Cooper tied the game with a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning and singled home the go-ahead run in the 10th. Adam Duvall homered to lead off the second.
MILWAUKEE 6 – Chi. Cubs 3… Luis Urias came through with a pinch-hit bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Brewers went on to double up on the Cubs.
Washington 5 – ST. LOUIS 2… Starlin Castro knocked in a pair of runs, Andrew Stevenson delivered a pinch-hit homer and the Nationals cruised past the Cardinals.
Cincinnati 3 – SAN FRANCISCO 0… Wade Miley (2-0) limited the Giants to two hits over five innings and two relievers completed the shutout. Jesse Winker homered with a runner aboard in the top of the third and Joey Votto added a two-run shot in the sixth for the Reds.
Philadelphia – N.Y. METS (ppd)… Rain in New York forced postponement of last night’s Phillies-Mets game. It will be replayed as part of a doubleheader today.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. Yankees 3 – TORONTO 1… Gerrit Cole (2-0) turned in a solid six-inning effort on the mound despite surrendering an early run. Kyle Higashioka drove in all three Yankee runs with a pair of homers.
TAMPA BAY 1 – Texas 0… Willy Adames homered in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Rays held on to clip the Rangers. Tyler Glasnow (1-0) pitched two-hit ball over 7-2/3 innings and struck out a career-high 14.
L.A. Angels 10 – KANSAS CITY 3… Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Mike Trout drilled a two-run homer in the Angels’ thrashing of the Royals. L.A. starter Alex Cobb (1-0) fanned 10 over 5-2/3 innings.
CHI. WHITE SOX 4 – Cleveland 3… Nick Madrigal reached base with an infield single in the top of the 10th inning and came around to score the winning run on a throwing error by Indians first baseman Yu Chang in the bottom of the ninth inning. Adam Eaton connected for a three-run homer in the third.
Detroit 6 – HOUSTON 2… Grayson Geiner hit a two-run homer, Renato Nuñez and Akil Badoo added solo blasts and the Tigers downed the Astros. Rookie Casey Mize (1-0) gave up four hits over seven scoreless innings in recording his first big-league win.
Seattle – BALTIMORE (ppd)… Rain in Baltimore forced postponement of last night’s Mariners-Orioles game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
Boston – MINNESOTA (ppd)… The Twins postponed last night’s game against the Red Sox out of respect for 20-year-old Daunte Wright, the victim of a fatal police shooting in the Brooklyn Center suburb. No makeup date has been announced.
INTERLEAGUE
Oakland 9 – ARIZONA 5… Jed Lowrie drove in the Athletics first three runs in staking them to an early lead on their way past the Diamondbacks. Matt Chapman knocked in two more runs with a single and a homer.
