MLB Scores Wednesday 8-30

NATIONAL LEAGUE
ST. LOUIS 5 – San Diego 4… Tommy Edman’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Cardinals a walkoff win over the Padres. Christian Walker belted a game-tying three-run homer in the fourth for St. Louis.

CHI. CUBS 3 – Milwaukee 2… Cody Bellinger’s infield single scored Mike Tauchman with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Cubs made it stand in edging the Brewers. Ian Happ doubled home a run and Dansby Swanson lifted a sacrifice fly in the first.

Cincinnati 4 – SAN FRANCISCO 1… Hunter Greene (3-6) held the Giants to an unearned run on two hits over 5-1/3 innings and the Reds cruised to the win. Spencer Steer stole home and Christian Encarnacion-Strand singled home a run in the top of the sixth inning. Encarnacion-Strand also homered with a runner aboard in the eighth.

Atlanta 7 – COLORADO 3… The Braves got solo homers from Kevin Pillar and Marcell Ozuna, along with a two-run shot from Orlando Arcia, in downing the Rockies. Darius Vines (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits over six innings in his major league debut.

L.A. DODGERS 7 – Arizona 0… Ryan Pepiot (1-0) held the Diamondbacks to two hits over five innings and Dodgers reliever Ryan Yarbrough blanked them the rest of the way on four hits. Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward hit two-run homers in the bottom of the third inning. Max Muncy drove in three more runs with a double and a single.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Chi. White Sox 10 – BALTIMORE 5… The White Sox doubled up on the Orioles after spotting them an early four-run lead. Andrew Vaughn and Oscar Colás hit two run homers in the top of the second inning to tie the game and Chicago took the lead for good on Luis Robert Jr.’s solo homer in the third. Tim Anderson legged out a two-run triple.

Cleveland 5 – MINNESOTA 2 (10 innings)… Kole Calhoun’s three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning gave the Guardians a come-from-behind win over the Twins. Andrés Giménez raced home with a tying run in the ninth on a wild pitch.

Houston 7 – BOSTON 4… The Astros built a 7-0 lead after four innings and coasted past the Red Sox. Michael Brantley had a couple of hits, including a two-run single. Jeremy Peña doubled home a run and scored twice.

SEATTLE 5 – Oakland 4…  The Mariners came from three runs down to edge the Athletics. Teoscar Hernández belted a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning and J.P. Crawford stroked a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh.

N.Y. Yankees 6 – DETROIT 2… Giancarlo Stanton singled home a run and smacked a solo homer in leading the Yankees past the Tigers. DJ LeMahieu and Greyber Torres also homered with the bases empty. Gerrit Cole (12-4) allowed two runs on four hits over six innings.

INTERLEAGUE
L.A. Angels 10 – PHILADELPHIA 8… The Angels used a three-run top of the ninth inning to put away the Phillies in a back-and-forth contest. Luis Rengifo tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Brandon Drury followed with a two-run homer.

TORONTO 7 – Washington 0… Chris Bassitt (12-7) tossed three-hit ball over eight innings and Blue Jays reliever Jay Jackson completed the shutout of the Nationals. Alejandro Kirk went 3-for-3 with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly.

N.Y. METS 6 – Texas 5 (10 innings)… D.J. Stewart homered with the bases empty in the bottom of the second inning, added a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth inning and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th to force home Jeff McNeill with the winning run as the Mets outlasted the Rangers. Daniel Vogelbach also went deep for New York.

Tampa Bay 3 – MIAMI 0 (10 innings)… Josh Lowe’s run-scoring single in the top of the 10th inning broke a scoreless tie and Randy Arozarena singled home two more runs as the Rays put away the Marlins. The game featured a duel between Tampa Bay starter Zach Eflin and his counterpart Jesús Luzardo, but neither got a decision.

Pittsburgh 4 – KANSAS CITY 1… Andre Jackson (1-1) limited the Royals to a run on two hits over 5-2/3 innings and the Pirates scratched out a victory. Jack Suwinski singled home a run and hit a solo homer. Bryan Reynolds also homered with the bases empty.
