NATIONAL LEAGUE
San Diego 9 – MIAMI 4… Matt Carpenter’s two-run double highlighted a five-run top of the ninth inning that sent the Padres past the Marlins. Juan Soto stroked a pair of run-scoring singles for San Diego.
N.Y. METS 2 – Philadelphia 0… Kodai Senga (5-3) limited the Phillies to one hit and struck out nine over seven innings before two Mets relievers completed the shutout of the Phillies. Francisco Lindor’s homer to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning provided all the offense New York needed.
ARIZONA 5 – Colorado 1… Zac Gallen (7-2) held the Rockies to six hits over seven scoreless innings and the Diamondbacks breezed to the victory. Evan Longoria homered with a runner aboard and Arizona got solo shots from Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll.
Pittsburgh 2 – SAN FRANCISCO 1… Rodolfo Castro raced home with a tie-breaking run in the top of the fifth inning and the Pirates made it stand in squeaking out a win over the Giants. Connor Joe gave Colorado an early lead with a first-inning homer but San Francisco tied the game in the bottom half.
L.A. DODGERS 9 – Washington 3… Max Muncy doubled home a run and scored during a three-run bottom of the third inning and J.D. Martinez homered with a runner aboard in the seventh as the Dodgers downed the Nationals. Freddie Freeman went 4-for-5 with a solo homer. Tony Gonsolin (3-1) allowed a run on three hits over six innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Texas 10 – DETROIT 6… Jonah Heim had a couple of hits and knocked in four runs to lead the Rangers past the Tigers. Josh Jung homered with a runner aboard. Travis Jankowski contributed a two-run double.
BALTIMORE 8 – Cleveland 5… Anthony Santander legged out a bases-clearing triple to highlight a five-run bottom of the second inning and the Orioles held off the Guardians. Gunnar Henderson doubled home two runs in the first.
HOUSTON 5 – Minnesota 1… Alex Bregman smacked a solo homer and Chaz McCormick added a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning as the Astros handled the Twins. Bregman added an RBI single in the third. Brandon Bielak (1-0) allowed a run on three hits over 5-2/3 innings.
CHI. WHITE SOX 7 – L.A. Angels 3… Andrew Vaughn cracked a go-ahead bases-clearing double to spark a five-run bottom of the fourth inning and the White Sox went on to down the Angels. Romy González doubled home a run and homered with the bases empty. Lucas Giolito (4-4) gave up three runs on four hits over five innings.
N.Y. Yankees 10 – SEATTLE 2… Anthony Volpe hit a three-run homer, Isiah Kiner-Falefa lined a pair of two-run singles and the Yankees breezed past the Mariners. Greg Allen and Aaron Judge slugged solo homers. Nestor Cortes (5-2) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings.
INTERLEAGUE
TORONTO 7 – Milwaukee 2… The Blue Jays overcame an early two-run deficit to roll past the Brewers. Whit Merrifield’s tie-breaking two-run double capped a four-run bottom of the first inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had three hits, including an RBI single. Yusei Kikuchi (6-2) allowed two runs on three hits over five innings.
Cincinnati 9 – BOSTON 8… Jose Barrera unloaded a grand slam to cap a five-run top of the seventh inning and the Reds withstood a ninth-inning rally to edge the Red Sox. Spencer Steer had a couple of hits and lifted a sacrifice fly. Ben Lively (3-2) pitched four-hit ball over 5-2/3 innings.
ST. LOUIS 2 – Kansas City 1… Nolan Gorman’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in Tommy Edman with the decisive run as the Cardinals held off the Royals. Nolan Arenado doubled home Paul Goldschmidt in the sixth to break a scoreless tie. Miles Mikolas (4-1) surrendered just three hits and struck out 10 over eight scoreless innings.
CHI. CUBS 2 – Tampa Bay 1… Mike Tauchman singled home Ian Happ with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Cubs held on to top the Rays. Niko Hoerner staked Chicago to an early lead with a homer to lead off the first.
OAKLAND 2 – Atlanta 1… An error by Braves third-baseman Austin Riley allowed Seth Brown to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Athletics made it two straight over the Braves. The game featured a duel between Oakland starter JP Sears and his counterpart Bryce Elder, but neither got a decision.
