NHL FIRST-ROUND PLAYOFF SCORES…
N.Y. Islanders 3 – CAROLINA 2… Brock Nelson scored a tie-breaking goal and Pierre Engvall added the decisive goal in the second period as the Islanders downed the Hurricanes to close within 3-2 in the series. Ilya Sorokin stopped 34 shots at goal. The series returns to New York for Game 6 on Friday.

DALLAS 4 – Minnesota 0… Goalie Jake Oettinger stopped all 27 shots and the Stars blanked the Wild to take a 3-2 lead in the series. Tyler Seguin and Jason Robertson each had a power-play goal and an assist. Roope Hintz assisted on three goals. The series returns to St. Paul for Game 6 on Friday.

EDMONTON 6 – Los Angeles 3… Zach Hyman found the net twice and the Oilers doubled up on the Kings to take a 3-2 lead in the series. Nick Bjugstad had a goal and an assist. Connor McDavid, Mattias Ekholm and Darnell Nurse each had two assists. The series returns to Los Angeles for Game 6 on Saturday.
