Tigers Win Thriller Over Mexico, Advance To District Championship Game

A battle of free throw shooting between the Kirksville Tigers and Mexico Bulldogs, and the Tigers won the free throw battle as well as the game 66-62 Wednesday at Moberly in the district semifinals. KHS trailed 42-38 at the end of three, trailed for much of the fourth quarter before pulling away at the end. Kirksville went 17 out of 25 at the line in the fourth quarter. Isaac Danielson 12 out of 15 in the period, and Keaton Anderson went 4 for six at the line in the fourth, but none bigger than his last two. With the Tigers leading 64-62 Anderson had a chance to seal the game with four seconds left. Anderson calmly sank both free throws and gave the the Tigers the 66-62 win. Mexico was only 7 out of 20 at the stripe in the fourth, and only 10 out of 27 for the game. KHS went 23 out of 32 on the night. Danielson led all scorers with 28 points, 16 for Anderson, Cole Kelly had 10. KHS climbs to 19-7, and more importantly, advances to Friday’s Diistrict Championship game to play Hallsville. Hallsville upset top seed Macon earlier in the night 78-65. Make no mistake, Hallsville is no joke, so the Tigers will have to be ready. Coverage on KIRX at 5:45 Friday, tip at 6:00.
