Lady Tigers Hang On For Dear Life, Beat Monroe City

The Kirksville Lady Tigers won a thriller at Monroe City Monday 57-56. KHS trailed 28-26 at halftime, then outscored the Panthers 21-9 in the 3rd quarter to take a 47-37 lead. But Monroe City fought back to take a 4 point lead in the 4th quarter before Kirksville fought back to tie the game at 56-56. KHS had the ball with 35 seconds left in the game. The strategy was to hold for the last shot to try to win in regulation, but Elli Porter got fouled with 7 seconds left. Already having made 14 out of 14 free throws up to that point, Porter went to the line for a one and one. She made the first to put KHS up 57-56, but on her first miss of the night on the second free throw, Monroe City got the rebound. Kirksville got down quickly in transition and did not allow the Panthers to get off a good shot and the clock ran out as the Lady Tigers hold for a 57-56 win. Porter finsished with 30 points, 15 out of 16 at the free throw line. 12 points for Jada Jackson on four three pointers. Naaron Hays led Monroe City witg 24 including 5 three pointers. Kirksville gets to 12-11 on the season and will host Chillicothe Thursday for Senior Night. The Tigers play Tuesday at Keokuk, hear it on KIRX.
