NHL Playoffs Thursday 5-5

N.Y. RANGERS 5 – Pittsburgh 2… The Rangers evened the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series at a game apiece by downing the Penguins. Artemi Panarin and Frank Vatrano each had a goal and two assists. Goalie Igor Shesterkin made 39 stops. The series shifts to Pittsburgh for Game 3 tomorrow.

FLORIDA 5 – Washington 1… The Panthers skated past the Capitals to even the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series at a game apiece. Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe each had a goal and an assist. Aaron Ekblad, Anton Lundell and Mason Marchment also scored for Florida. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 shots at goal.  The series shifts to Washington for Game 3 tomorrow.

COLORADO 2 – Nashville 1 (OT)… Cale Makar found the net 8:31 into overtime and the Avalanche outlasted the Predators to take a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. Nathan MacKinnon scored a first-period goal. Goalie Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves. The series moves to Nashville for Game 3 tomorrow.

Dallas 2 – CALGARY 0… Goalie Jake Oettinger stopped all 29 shots as the Stars blanked the Flames to even the Western Conference first-round playuff series at a game apiece. Joe Pavelski scored a first-period goal and Michael Raffl added an empty-netter. The series moves to Dallas for tomorrow’s Game 3
