MLB Scores Tuesday 5-3

NATIONAL LEAGUE
N.Y. METS 5 – Atlanta 4… The Mets scored twice in their first two at-bats and coasted past the Braves in the opener of a doubleheader. Pete Alonso produced a pair of run-scoring singles.

N.Y. METS 3 – Atlanta 0… Carlos Carrasco (2-1) scattered six hits over eight innings and reliever Seth Lugo preserved the shutout as the Mets completed a sweep of the twinbill. Domonic Smith provided all the offense New York needed with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning. Pete Alonso homered in the sixth.

Arizona 5 – MIAMI 4… Christian Walker homered, doubled and knocked in three runs as the Diamondbacks held off the Marlins. Pavin Smith also went deep and Ketel Marte added two RBIs. Humberto Castellanos  (2-1) gave up four hits over five shutout innings.

MILWAUKEE 6 – Cincinnati 3…  Willy Adames belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and the Brewers went on to hand the Reds their seventh straight loss. Rowdy Tellez added a solo shot in the eighth. Brandon Woodruff (3-1) allowed three runs on five hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts over 5-2/3 innings.

Washington 10 – COLORADO 2… Josh Bell blasted a three-run homer, Juan Soto added a solo shot and the Nationals walloped the Rockies. Keibert Ruiz had three hits and three RBIs. Yadiel Hernández went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. Erick Fedde (2-2) allowed just a run on six hits over seven innings.

L.A. DODGERS 3 – San Francisco 1… Chris Taylor homered with a runner aboard in the bottom of the second inning to provide the Dodgers with all the offense they needed in the win over the Giants. Hanser Alberto raced home with an insurance run on a wild pitch in the eighth. Julio Urias (2-1) pitched four-hit ball over six scoreless innings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Minnesota 7 – BALTIMORE 2… Ryan Jeffers connected for a tie-breaking three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning and the Twins put away the Orioles for their fourth straight win. Jorge Polanco singled home a run and lifted a sacrifice fly.

N.Y. Yankees 9 – TORONTO 1… The Yankees made it 11 straight wins with their thrashing of the Blue Jays. Aaron Judge homered and drove in three runs. Giancarlo Stanton homered with a runner aboard. Jameson Taillon (2-1) allowed one run on five hits over six innings.

BOSTON 4 – L.A. Angels 0… Michael Wacha (3-0) limited the Angels to three hits over 5-2/3 innings and three Red Sox relievers completed the shutout. Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez smacked solo homers for Boston.

HOUSTON 4 – Seattle 0… The Astros blanked the Mariners to give Dusty Baker his 2,000th win as a major-league manager. Cristian Javier (2-0) pitched two-hit ball over 5-1/3 innings and three relievers did the rest. Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve hit solo homers. Jeremy Peña drove in a pair of runs.

Tampa Bay 10 – OAKLAND 7 (10 innings)… The Rays erased an early four-run deficit to outlast the Athletics. Mike Zunino came through with a game-tying pinch-hit two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning. Yandy Diaz delivered a two-run double to spark a five-run top of the 10th inning. Brett Phillips hit a two-run homer for Tampa Bay.

INTERLEAGUE
Texas 6 – PHILADELPHIA 4… The Rockies overcame an early three-run deficit to top the Phillies. Zach Reks stroked a tie-breaking two-run double in the top of the sixth inning. Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim homered for Texas.

Chi. White Sox 3 – CHI. CUBS 1… The White Sox built a three-run lead through three innings and held off the Cubs on a chilly night in Chicago. Tim Anderson homered with the bases empty. Six pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

KANSAS CITY 7 – St. Louis 1… The Royals cruised past the Cardinals to snap their four-game losing streak. Brad Keller (1-2) took a shutout into the seventh inning.  Bobby Witt Jr. hit his first major league homer.

San Diego – CLEVELAND (ppd)… Rain in Cleveland forced postponement of last night’s Padres-Indians game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

Pittsburgh – DETROIT (ppd)… Rain in Detroit forced postponement of last night’s Pirates-Tigers game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
