NATIONAL LEAGUE
SAN FRANCISCO 11 – San Diego 4… Buster Posey drove in three runs with a pair of singles, including his 1,500th career hit, and the Giants nailed down the NL West title with a pounding of the Padres. Starting pitcher Logan Webb (11-3) homered with a runner aboard. San Francisco awaits the winner of Wednesday night’s NL wild-card game in the NL Division Series.
L.A. DODGERS 10 – Milwaukee 3… Trea Turner unloaded his second grand slam in less than 48 hours and wrapped up the NL batting title as the Dodgers walloped the NL Central-champion Brewers but finished a game short of their ninth straight NL West title. Their 106th victory leaves them the winningest second-place team in major league history. L.A. hosts St. Louis in the NL wild-card game on Wednesday.
ATLANTA 5 – N.Y. Mets 0… Six pitchers combined on a six-hitter and the NL East-champion Braves cruised past the Mets. Jorge Soler homered to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Austin Riley drove in two runs with a single and a double. Atlanta opens NL Division Series play Friday at Milwaukee.
Chi. Cubs 3 – ST. LOUIS 2… Matt Duffy produced a pair of run-scoring singles and the Cubs edged the Cardinals on Sunday in a game that was halted after seven innings due to rain.
Cincinnati 6 – PITTSBURGH 3… Aristides Aquino singled home a tie-breaking run in the top of the fifth inning and homered with the bases empty in the sixth as the Reds doubled up on the Pirates. Joe Votto belted a three-run homer.
MIAMI 5 – Philadelphia 4… Nick Fortes hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Marlins held off Phillies. Eddy Alvarez tripled home a run in the first and scored on Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s single.
ARIZONA 5 – Colorado 4… The Diamondbacks overtook the Rockies after spotting them a four-run lead. Josh VanMeter connected for a walkoff solo homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. YANKEES 1 – Tampa Bay 0… Aaron Judge’s one-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning sent the Yankees past the NL East-champion Rays and into the postseason as an AL wild card. Six New York pitchers combined on a five-hitter. New York and Boston finished in a tie, but the Red Sox will host tomorrow night’s AL wild-card game due to their one-game advantage in head-to-head matchups during the regular season.
TORONTO 12 – Baltimore 4… George Springer hit a pair of homers, including a grand slam, but the Blue Jays’ quest for a wild card spot came up short after the N.Y. Yankees and Boston won their games. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. connected for his 48th homer.
HOUSTON 7 – Oakland 6… Yuli Gurriel put an exclamation point on winning the AL batting crown by singling home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the AL West-champion Astros fought off the Athletics. Kyle Tucker’s 30th homer came with a runner aboard in the sixth. Chas McCormick, Jake Meyers and Carlos Correa smacked solo homers.
L.A. Angels 7 – SEATTLE 3… Shohei Ohtani led off the game with his 46th homer, Jared Walsh added a two-run shot in the fourth and the Angels topped the Mariners on a day Seattle was being eliminated from the postseason with wins by the New York Yankees and Boston. David Fletcher knocked in two runs with a double and a triple.
Cleveland 6 – TEXAS 0… Aaron Civale allowed only three singles over six innings and the Indians won their final game before beginning next season with a new name, the Guardians. Yu Chang homered with a runner aboard for Cleveland.
Detroit 5 – CHI. WHITE SOX 2… Daz Cameron sparked a three-run top of the ninth inning with a lead-off homer and the Tigers put away the AL Central-champion White Sox. Chicago opens Division Series play Thursday at AL West-champion Houston.
Minnesota 7 – KANSAS CITY 3… Jorge Polanco belted a three-run homer during a five-run top of the first inning and the Twins never looked back in their win over the Royals. Byron Buxton also went deep for Minnesota.
INTERLEAGUE
Boston 7 – WASHINGTON 5… The Red Sox erased a 5-1 sixth-inning deficit to down the Nationals and advance to the postseason as the AL’s top wild card. Rafael Devers’ second homer of the game was a tie-breaking two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning. Alex Verdugo’s two-run double tied the game in the seventh.
