Mary Margaret Delaney

Mary Margaret Delaney, age 90 of Edina, died Wednesday, September 15, 2021, in Quincy IL. Mary was a recent resident of LaBelle Manor Care, LaBelle, MO.

Mary was born in Edina, MO, January15, 1931, to Arthur and Jewell Cain Delaney. She attended St. Joseph School graduating with the class of 1949. She joked about being a “49er.”

Mary began work at Burnham Manufacturing in Edina. She then worked for seven years at the Knox County Extension Office. The majority of her career was spent in FmHA. She was a County Program Technician retiring in 1991 with 33 years of service. She enjoyed working part time at the Citizens bank after her retirement. A highlight of her career was serving on an FmHA Taskforce in Washington, DC. The participants formed a binding friendship calling themselves the “Washington 7.” Mary made friends in each job who became her lifelong friends. Her FmHA family was very special to her.

Mary was always ready for a ball game, a bridge game, or a round of golf. She willingly served on many church and community committees. Mary enjoyed traveling on vacation with family and friends and following nieces and nephews to their sporting events. The annual shopping trip with Jeanette, Annie, and her sister Francie was always a highlight of the season.

Mary is survived by a brother, William T. “Bill” and Margaret Delaney, a sister Carol and Michael Fox both of Edina; seven nephews: Barry and Connie Delaney, David and Kristi Delaney, Bob and Marie Delaney, Rick and Lesa Delaney, Michael and Ashley Delaney, Brian and Stephanie Fox, and Mark and Emily Fox, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Frances Ann “Francie” Delaney.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am Monday, September 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Edina.

Visitation will be 4-7 pm Sunday, September 19, at Doss Funeral Home in Edina beginning with a prayer service.
