Ray L. Catlett

Ray L. Catlett, 75 of Kirksville passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

The son of Pearl O. and Irene N. (Ames) Catlett, he was born July 18, 1946 in Green City, Missouri. On October 24, 1964 in the Methodist Church in Green City, Missouri he was united in marriage to Carolyn Flanagan.

Ray is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Christy Huels and husband Ed of Overland Park, KS and Deni Lake and husband Tom of Lenexa, KS; three grandchildren, Olivia Huels, Elliot Huels and Wyatt Lake; two brothers, Dean Catlett and wife Nancy of Owensville, MO and Paul Catlett and wife Becky of Grain Valley, MO; and one sister-in-law, Sandi Catlett of Green City, MO. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Catlett, and an infant sister, Donna Ruth Catlett.

Ray grew up on the family farm in Green City and graduated from the Green City R-I Schools in 1964. Ray and Carolyn moved to Kansas City area, where he worked for Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac for eleven years. In 1975, they returned to the farm in Green City and farmed until he retired in 2006 when Ray and Carolyn moved to Kirksville.

He was a former member of the Yellow Creek Baptist Church and proud member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, reloading, reading, puzzles and NASCAR. Ray was plain spoken and rarely had an unsaid thought. From his farming to his family, Ray’s authenticity and kind soul showed through. More importantly, Ray loved his grandkids and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2021at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Rolf Christen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Green City, MO.

Memorials in memory of Ray are suggested to Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
