James Darroll Farley

James Darroll Farley, 80 of Kirksville, Missouri passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri on Friday, May 21, 2021.

The son of Robert D. and Marcella (Dale) Farley, he was born on June 7, 1940 in rural Downing, Missouri. On April 11, 1959 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Lawson. On June 26, 1994 at the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Blankenship. Jim was a graduate of the Downing High School in Downing, Missouri.

Jim is survived by his children, Jasetia Buckallew and husband, Richie of rural Lancaster, Missouri; Julie Poe and husband, Doug of rural Downing, Missouri and Robert Farley and wife, Stacy of rural Lancaster, Missouri; two step children, James A. Stanton and wife, Carmen of Kirksville, Missouri and Shelley Stanton and husband, Eric of Las Vegas, Nevada; 7 grandchildren, Colby Buckallew and wife, Susan of Lancaster, Missouri, Caleb Poe and wife, Alena of Downing, Missouri, Gavin Poe and companion, Julie Huff of Queen City, Missouri, Megan Chancellor and husband, John of Lancaster, Missouri, Melody Farley of Lancaster, Missouri, Coy Farley of Lancaster, Missouri and Preston Kelly of Las Vegas, Nevada; eleven great grandchildren, Alexis Shanahan, Marissa Buckallew, Chloe Buckallew, Dawson Poe, Aubrey Poe, Mason Poe, Ronan Poe, Diana Poe, Payton Chancellor, Averi Chancellor and Kase Chancellor; one great great granddaughter, Kallie Boas; two brothers, Joe Farley and wife, Barbara of Downing, Missouri and Gail Farley and wife, Cathy Jo of rural Downing, Missouri; two sisters, Ardith Thomson and husband, Dick of Memphis, Missouri and Marcia Slavin and husband, Tim of Memphis, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and many good friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Bill Squires; wife, Mary Alice Farley on February 21, 2021; two brothers, Tim Jay Farley and one brother in infancy, Bobby Dale Farley; nephew, Derick Farley and two granddaughters, Jessica Buckallew and Josie Farley.

Jim and Mary Alice were members of the Sugar Creek Community Church in Kirksville, Missouri for a number of years. Jim was a member of Glenwood Masonic Lodge #427 for forty years plus and was also a member of the El Kadir Shrine Club and the Schuyler County Shrine Firemen.

Jim was well known in the area for construction of the Lan-Dow buildings and houses for many in the surrounding areas. After constructing over 5000 Lan-Dow buildings, Jim stopped counting!! He was still working at the age of 80 and never retired. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, framing and selling prints and collecting antique toy tractors.

A memorial service will be held for both Jim and Mary Alice Farley on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Virgil Jones, Pastor of the Sugar Creek Community Church in Kirksville, Missouri officiating. Masonic services will be conducted by Glenwood Lodge A.F. & A.M. #427. A special CD selection will be “An Evening Prayer” and a recording of Mary Alice Farley singing “My Father’s House”.
