George Robert (Bob) Drummond

George Robert (Bob) Drummond, 84, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Kirksville Manor Care Center where he had been a patient since September of 2019.

The son of the late George Emp and Thaley Elizabeth (Scott) Drummond, he was born November 23, 1936 in Kirksville, Missouri. Bob was united in marriage to Lavera Partin on January 17, 1958.

Bob is survived by his wife Lavera of sixty-two years; one son, Ron Drummond of Kirksville, MO; one daughter, Sharon Drummond of Kirksville, MO, as well as nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by two sisters, Rudell (Harry) McNabb, and Loretta (Vernon) Phipps; eight siblings at child birth.

Bob received his education in the Hustead rural school, attended part of his freshman year at Unionville High School, and later got his G.E.D. at Kirksville VoTech where he took an A/C Class. He also took a correspondence course for Airline Mechanics.

Mr. Drummond worked for General Motors in Chicago, Illinois, then for Cummins Diesel in St. Louis. In 1958, Bob joined the maintenance department at Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville, where he was employed until his retirement. He later worked part-time in the boiler room at AT Still University.

Bob loved anything about the farm – from feeding cows and hauling hay to driving and restoring his John Deere. He was always willing to help anyone in mechanical need; repairing everything from motor homes to motorcycles.

Bob was instrumental in beginning Perpetual care for Cox Cemetery and held the position of treasurer until his health failed.

Bob entrusted his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Private family services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23rd at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Harold Engle officiating. Interment will follow the private service at Cox Cemetery near Green Castle, Missouri.
