Audry Atholene Cook

Audry Atholene Cook, 99, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Sullivan County Memorial Hospital on November 8, 2020.

Atholene was born in Putnam County near Unionville, MO, on November 3rd, 1921, the daughter of George and Mary Ocal Carter Davis. In 1940 Atholene married Lester Cook. Atholene and Lester had 4 children. Atholene was a diligent worker and hard work was just a part of life. Atholene was a member of the Unionville First Christian Church, Extension Club, the Red Hat Ladies, and a 4H Leader for many years teaching our younger generation how to sew and bake. She worked many jobs in addition to being an office assistant for Dr. Dale and Dr. Judd. Atholene was known for her prize-winning baking and her homemade doughnuts became a favorite to her children. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many clothes for her girls, nieces, and grandkids.

Atholene is survived by her children, Mary Joyce Ballard of Olathe, KS; Ronald Cook of Unionville, MO; Marla Sangster and husband Bill of Lakeland, FL; and Marilyn Carmack and husband Garry of Milan, MO. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren ranging in age from 52 to 37; 13 great grandchildren; and a brother, Daniel Davis of Pasco, WA.

In retirement Lester and Atholene spent winters in warmer states such as Florida, Arizona, and Texas. They also traveled to Mexico and Europe.

In addition to her parents and husband, Atholene was preceded in death by 3 brothers, a sister, and a great grandson.

Funeral services for Atholene Cook will be at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
