Buddy Parcel

Rollie Mike “Buddy” Parcel, 73, of rural Unionville, MO., passed away Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2020, at his home.

Buddy was born February 1, 1947, in Livonia, MO, the son of Loyd Junior and Luella Pauline (Walter) Parcel, both of whom preceded him in death. Two brothers, Richard and Robert Parcel, and a brother-in-law, JR Minard, also preceded him in death. Buddy was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Hays Parcel in Milan, MO, on February 21, 1970, and she also preceded him in death on September 9, 1997.

Buddy is survived by his daughter, Robin Lynette Parcel Crawford and her husband Christopher of Osborn, MO, and their daughters Ashley Nicole Crawford and Tara Kayann Crawford; and his son, Joe David Parcel and his wife Charlotte of Saint Joseph, MO, and their children, Matthew Bibb and Abbey Filson, and her son Torrin Myers. Other surviving family members include three sisters and two brothers, Rudy Parcel and his wife Carolyn of Unionville, MO, Ralph Parcel of Kansas City, MO, Ruth Ann Ridgeway and her husband Stanley of Hartford, MO, Rosalee Sparks and her husband John of Lewistown, MT, and Roberta Lee Minard of Moulton, IA, and brother-in-law Tyrone Hays and his wife Sue of Unionville, MO.

Buddy was raised in Livonia, attended Livonia grade school, and later graduated from Lancaster High School in 1965. Upon completion of high school, he studied welding in Rolla, MO, and shortly after was inducted into the United States Army on July 19, 1966. He served in Vietnam and returned stateside July 12, 1968. Buddy continued with the Army Reserve until his honorable discharge July 18, 1972.

Buddy worked at McGraw Edison in Centerville, IA, where he met his wife Beverly. Beverly was the love of his life and he did not remarry. He later worked as a heavy-equipment operator and mechanic for road construction and mining operations. He also farmed and logged for many years.

Buddy was a jokester and known to answer the phone with everything from “Happy Birthday,” to “Speak.” He loved fishing and hunting, though he did have a pet deer named Cookie one season that he spray-painted orange and fed cookies, hence the name. He also had a terrier mix named Barney he fed peppermints. It’s hard to say who adopted who between Barney and Buddy, but they were loyal companions.

He loved to go all out for Christmas and give special gifts; he was an avid believer in Santa Claus. Nobody could decorate a Christmas tree like Buddy. He made legendary pecan pie and chocolate and peanut butter fudge.

Buddy was a good friend to all and the best dad, brother, and grandpa in the world. Anyone was welcome to stop by his house for a visit at any time. He was a very special person and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Memorial services for Buddy Parcel will be at the Omaha Baptist Church in Putnam County at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 18, 2020. There will be no visitation. Private inurnment will take place at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO.
