Harold E. Lunsford passed from this life September 12, 2020 in Liberty, Missouri under Hospice care into the life everlasting with the help of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born on December 20, 1934 in Pulaski, Iowa to Wallace Gleason and Velva (Gordy) Lunsford. At a young age, his family moved to a farm close to Downing, Missouri, where he attended school. He graduated Downing High School in 1952. After graduation, he apprenticed as a clock and watch maker.
Harold married the love of his life, Ora Joan Cole on May 29, 1957. To this union two children were born, Deborah Lunsford Jay, husband, Jeff, children, Joseph and Stephanie and Dan Lunsford, wife, Francesca, children, Conner Lunsford, Mikayla Williams, Luke Ulberg; great grandchildren, Gage and Beau Williams.
He served his country in the United States Army, Advanced Infantry, where he was awarded the medal of excellence.
Harold was employed by the CB&Q, BN, and BNSF railroads, where he worked for forty-two years. During this time, he maintained a clock and watch repair business. Many chiming clocks graced their home and shop.
In his retirement, he enjoyed restoring antique cars and traveling to car shows with his 1935 Ford Cabriolet. His love of country and gospel music led him to explore different instruments. The violin, banjo, guitar, and keyboards have been heard playing melodies to his Lord. Also, his love of his church family, Lathrop Christian Church, gave him the opportunity to be active with the community. He helped with transportation for cancer patients, delivered Meals on Wheels and helped with the local food pantry.
Harold was preceded in death by his father, Wallace and his mother, Velva. He will greatly be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri. Military rites will be conducted by Scotland County VFW Post #4958.
