Barbara Jean Hostetter

Barbara Jean (Frazer) Hostetter, 83, of Milan passed away peacefully in her sleep and received the reward of eternal life on August 7, 2020.

Barbara was born in Milan the youngest of Clifford and Lystel Frazer’s six children on December 21, 1936. At the age of 12, she professed Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in the family pond.

She married Gary Hostetter on December 23, 1956, at the Milan Church of Christ. They lived in Key West, Florida, during Gary’s Navy enlistment before returning to raise their family in Milan.

Barbara and Gary purchased her parents’ family farm east of Milan in 1964. She and Gary worked side by side for many years at their family business, Hostetter Farm Service.

In 1989, she earned her associates degree in Early Childhood Education from North Central Missouri College and was one of the first parent educators in the Parents as Teachers program in Sullivan County.

She was the BEST mother and grandmother to four children and four grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gary Hostetter; daughter Julie Foster of Columbia; daughter Betty Lovell and husband Scott of Wentzville; son Robert Hostetter and wife Roberta of Columbia; grandchildren Angela Foster, Bailey Prazma and husband Ty, Luke Lovell, and McCartney Hostetter; sisters Dorothy Emerson, Abilene, TX; Mary Anthony, St. Louis; and Waneta Frazer, Columbia; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Janet Sue, in 1959; siblings Corrine Young and Harold Frazer; and step-mother Mary Frazer.

Pallbearers will be Angela Foster, Bailey Prazma, Luke Lovell, McCartney Hostetter, and Kirsten, Javin, and Evan Tharp.

Visitation will be at 1 pm, Tuesday, August 11 with the funeral service at 2 pm at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, with Andy Woods and David Tharp, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan.

Memorials may be given to Show-Me Christian Youth Home in Galt, MO, or Christ’s Community Church in Milan and may be mailed or left at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home, 120 West 4th Street, Milan, MO 63556.
