The Adair County Veterans Organizations will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 am, Monday, May 30, 2022 at Kirksville’s Rieger Armory. Colonel Aaron Pitney, Commander, General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, will be the featured speaker. A 1988 graduate of Kirksville High School, Colonel Pitney received his commission from the United States Military Academy and his Medical Doctorate from the Uniformed Services University of Health Services. His career has included service at Brooke Army Medical Center, Tripler Army Medical Center, Madigan Army Medical Center, and as Deputy Commander, 549th Hospital Center, Korea. His service includes two deployments to Iraq in 2003 and in 2010. He served as the Chief of Medical Readiness, Office of the Surgeon General from July 2018 until May 2020, when he assumed duty as the Commander, General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital.
