Howard Douglas King

Howard Douglas King, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, in Pleasant Valley, Missouri.

Doug was born March 27, 1943, in Milan, Missouri, to Leo and Ruth (McClanahan) King. They preceded him in death. He married Vickie Marlay on November 29th, 1969, and she preceded him in death in 2013.

Survivors include: His two sons, Stephen King and wife Leanne, Greg King and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Tyler King, Tawni King, Preslie King, Piper King and Tyler Tice; a sister, Susie Gardner; a very special friend, Marva Cox.

Doug grew up in Milan, graduating from Milan C-II, class of 1961. He worked as an automotive parts representative most of his life. He was a lifetime member (34 years) of the Elks, including membership at Milan Elks Lodge and the Gladstone Elks Lodge. He was an avid upland bird hunter, waterfowl hunter and fisherman. He also loved being involved in barbeque contests with friends. Doug will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart and deep love for his family. He took pride in being a husband, father and friend and his warm spirit touched all who knew him. Doug’s life was one of dedication to those he loved, and he will be deeply missed.

A visitation for Doug will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milan on Friday, February 20th, 2026 with an inurnment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Gladstone Elks Lodge or the Milan Elks Lodge.
