Clarence Ray Kinney
August 30, 1940 – September 17, 2025
Clarence Ray Kinney, 85 of Bloomfield, Iowa, formerly of Downing, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the Bloomfield Care Center where he had been a resident since July 2024.
The son of Alfred Ray and Nelda Maxine (Gooden) Kinney, he was born on August 30, 1940 in Scotland County, Missouri. He attended North Barker School. On December 31, 1966 in Fairfield, Iowa at the St. Mary Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Marie Mineart and to this union three children were born, Gerald Ray, Catherine Marie and Phillip Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Kinney of Bloomfield, Iowa; his children, Gerald Kinney and wife, Keri of Reinbeck, Iowa, Catherine Kinney and Chuck Waletzke of Kingman, Arizona and Phillip Kinney and wife, Rebekah of Winterset, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Rachael Halliday and husband, Tyler of Austin, Minnesota, Olivia Bernand of Austin, Minnesota, Derek Kinney of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ashley and Erin Kinney of Winterset, Iowa; one great grandchild, Marcus Halliday of Austin, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Wagner of Burlington, Iowa, Ann and Deryl Drum of Crestview, Florida and Martha and Ben Buckman of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Clarence is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carol Maxine Sayre and her husband, Joe; nephew, Mike Wagner; parents-in-law, Sylvester and Ferne Mineart and sisters-in-law, Carrol Harrell and Marilyn Mineart.
Clarence was a member of the Barker Church, Barker United Methodist Men, North Barker Cemetery Board, former member of the Davis County Extension Council, Davis County Cattlemen, Grove Township Clerk and a 4H member.
Clarence and Rosalie lived and farmed in southern Davis County, Iowa for 48 years before moving to Downing, Missouri to the house his parents built. Clarence was also a carpenter and helped build his parents house. He loved to work in his shop making furniture and crafts. He made quilt racks, shelves, mailbox stamp holders among other projects for Barker UM and cancer benefit auctions. Clarence and Rosalie mowed the North Barker Cemetery for several years.
Clarence enjoyed watching and participating in tractor pulls with his Oliver antique tractors. He has about 300 trophies for tractor pulls, including a 1st place at the Iowa State Fair. Clarence restored his 1936 18-27 Oliver that he pulled and also pulled with a 1940 Oliver 80. Another antique tractor he has is an I-4 from the early 1940’s. The kids called it the “Puddle Jumper”.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Barker Church, north of Downing, Missouri with Mark Wagner officiating with Dee Wiley, assisting. Music will be provided by Bonnie Wagner, pianist and Ben Buckman, soloist singing “Here I Am Lord” and congregational selections of “In The Garden” and “Because He Lives” will be sung. Pallbearers will be Randy Sayre, Dan Sayre, Rick Sayre, Phil Gaffney, Derek Kinney, Tyler Halliday and Daryl Toews. Honorary pallbearer will be Laverne Weilbrenner. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Barker Church or Barker Cemetery.
