KHS Gets Back On Track With Win Over Mexico

The Kirksville Tigers overcame an early Mexico touchdown and dominated the Bulldogs 24-13 Friday at Homecoming. The Tigers fumbled on their opening possession and two plays later Mexico found the end zone on a 35 yard pass to Drew Demint just over a minute into the game. The Tigers took advantage of a bad snap on a punt attempt deep in Mexico’s end of the field to take possession at the Mexico 3 yard line. On the next play Ryder Lyons took it in to tie the game at 6-6 in the first. Late in the second period, Jace Kent capped off a nice 11 play, 62 yard drive with a 4 yard run to give KHS a 14-6 lead with 2:59 left in the first half. In what turned out to be a big score, Beckett Lyons booted a 23 yard field goal with 4:29 left in the third to give the Tigers a two possession lead at 17-6. Cole Kelly slammed the door with a 29 yard touchdown run midway through the fourth to make it 24-6 on their way to the 24-13 victory. For the first time this season, Ryder Lyons showed good command of the offense all game long. The Tigers rolled up 342 yards of total offense, while holding Mexico to just 172 total yards in a dominating defensive effort. KHS ran the ball 51 times for 246 yards, 90 of those yards from Kent. Kirksville climbs to 3-4 on the year, 2-2 in the NCMC. Next, KHS travels to Fulton Friday. Fulton got shut out by Marshall 20-0.
