MLB WILD CARD SERIES OPENERS…
Texas 4 – TAMPA BAY 0… Jordan Montgomery scattered six hits over seven innings and got help from two relievers as the Rangers shut out the Rays in the opener of the AL wild card series. Josh Jung’s sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning brought home the only run Texas needed. Corey Seager had a couple of hits, including an RBI single. Tampa Bay will try to even the series at home today in Game 2. Zach Eflin takes the mound for the Rays and will be opposed by Nathan Eovaldi. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. .
MINNESOTA 3 – Toronto 1… Royce Lewis homered twice and drove in all three runs as the Twins eased past the Blue Jays to open their AL wild card series. Pablo López held Toronto to a run on five hits over 5-2/3 innings. Minnesota will try to clinch at home today in Game 2. Sonny Gray gets the start for the Twins. The Blue Jays will counter with José Berríos. Gametime is 3:30 p.m.
Arizona 6 – MILWAUKEE 3… Gabriel Moreno smacked a tie-breaking homer to lead off the top of the fourth inning and Christian Walker homered with a runner aboard in the ninth as the Diamondbacks doubled up on the Brewers in the opener of the NL wild card series. Corbin Carroll hit a two-run homer and Ketel Marte followed with a solo shot as Arizona tied the game with a three-run third. The series stays in Milwaukee for Game 2 today. Zac Gallen takes the mound for the Diamondbacks. The Brewers haven’t announced a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
PHILADELPHIA 4 – Miami 1… Zack Wheeler allowed just a run on five hits over six innings and three releivers shut the door as the Phillies breezed past the Marlins in Game 1 of the NL wild card series. Nick Castellanos had a couple of hits, including a run-scoring double. Alec Bohm also doubled home a run. Cristian Pache and produced RBI singles. The Phillies will try to close out the series at home today in Game 2. They’ll send Aaron Nola to the mound, where he’ll be opposed by Braxton Garrett. Gametime is 7:00 pm.
