MLB Scores Wednesday 8-9

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Miami 5 – CINCINNATI 4… Bryan De La Cruz hit a tie-breaking homer to lead off the top of the ninth inning and the Marlins hung on to edge the Reds. Josh Bell homered from both sides of the plate and knocked in four runs.

MILWAUKEE 7 – Colorado 6 (10 innings)… Mark Canha doubled home a tying run and scored on a throwing error by Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Brewers escaped with the win. Willy Adames and Andruw Monasterio hit back-to-back two-out solo homers in the fifth.

PHILADELPHIA 7 – Washington 0… Michael Lorenzen (7-7) threw a no-hitter in his home debut for the Phillies and got plenty of support in the thumping of the Nationals. Lorenzen struck out five and walked four in tossing the 14th no-hitter in franchise history. Nick Castellanos homered twice and drove in three runs. Weston Wilson also connected.

Atlanta 6 – PITTSBURGH 5… Austin Riley’s sacrifice fly scored Michael Harris II with a tie-breaking run in the top of the eighth inning and the Braves made it stand in topping the Pirates. Ozzie Albies produced a pair of run-scoring singles.

N.Y. METS 4 – Chi. Cubs 3… Jeff McNeil smacked a tie-breaking solo homer and Jonathan Araúz singled home a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the Mets past the Cubs. Pete Alonso tied the game with a two-run homer in the fourth.

L.A. Dodgers 2 – ARIZONA 0… Dodger starter Bobby Miller tossed four-hit ball over six innings and three relievers held the Diamondbacks hitless the rest of the way in the shutout win. Colin Ferguson (6-3) worked a perfect seventh to get the win. David Peralta’s two-run single in the top of the eighth inning accounted for the game’s only offense.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
OAKLAND 2 – Texas 0… Five pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Athletics blanked the Rangers. Jonah Bride lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to score Esteury Ruiz with the only run Oakland needed. Zack Gelof added a homer to lead off the sixth.

DETROIT 9 – Minnesota 5… Spender Torkelson hit a pair of solo homers and the Tigers slugged their way past the Twins. Matt Vierling and Eric Haase both had three hits and an RBI.

Houston 8 – BALTIMORE 2… Kyle Tucker got things going with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, Jose Altuve knocked in three runs with a pair of singles and the Astros cruised past the Orioles. Cristian Javier (8-2) surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings.

BOSTON 4 – Kansas City 3… Alex Verdugo lined a two-run double and scored on McGuire’s single in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Red Sox the lead for good in their win over the Royals. Triston Casas homered with the bases empty in the second. Nick Pivetta (8-6) allowed two tuns on four hits over five innings.

Toronto 1 – CLEVELAND 0… George Springer’s first-inning solo homer accounted for the game’s only run as the Blue Jays held off the Guardians. Kevin Gausman (9-6) limited Cleveland to our hits over seven innings.

CHI. WHITE SOX 9 – N.Y. Yankees 2… Oscar Colas homered with a runner aboard and Elvis Andrus cleared the bases with a double to highlight the White Sox’s pounding of the Yankees. Mike Clevinger (5-5) allowed a run on three hits over six innings.

INTERLEAGUE
St. Louis 6 – TAMPA BAY 4… Jordan Walker singled home a tie-breaking run in the top of the third inning and Paul Goldschmidt singled home two more runs in the fourth as the Cardinals eased past the Rays. Lars Nootbaar hit a solo homer.

L.A. ANGELS 4 – San Francisco 1… Shohei Ohtani (10-5) held the Giants to an unearned run on three hits over six innings and the Angels breezed to the win. Brandon Drury singled home a run and Mike Moustakas belted a three-run homer as L.A. scored all four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

SEATTLE 6 – San Diego 1… The Mariners erupted to score five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to roll past the Padres. Cal Raleigh’s two-run homer sparked the uprising. Ty France doubled home a run and scored.
