the Truman State women finally pulled away late for a 98-84 victory over Illinois Springfield on Thursday night. Hannah Belanger became the single-season three-point queen and matched the career triples record by scoring a game-high 24 points and adding a career-high 10 assists for her first double-double.
UIS and Truman were both hot from outside to start the game with the Prairie Stars knocking in six threes in the first 10 minutes of the game and holding a 28-22 lead after one quarter.
Belanger scored 19 points in the first half and Truman grabbed a 43-42 lead at the break.
The visitors lingered around in the third quarter as Truman led by just four after 30 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs grabbed their first 10-point lead at 86-74 with 3:30 left to play.
Belanger was 8-of-11 from the field with four three-pointers, seven rebounds, 10 assists, one steal and one block on the night. She now has 81 season three-pointers, breaking the record of 80 held by Amy Briggs and as 277 career triples, matching Allie Norton’s record. She also climbed over 300 (301) career assists.
Alex Fanning added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Claire Rake poured in 17, Maddie Niemeier 11 and Ellie Weltha added 10 for the Bulldogs to improve to 17-7 overall and 13-3 in the GLVC.
They will host Lewis University on Saturday for Senior Day. Tip off is slated for 1 p.m.
