The Kirksville Lady Tigers lost a nailbiter to Warrenton 54-53 at the 12 Courts of Christmas at Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City. KHS led by ten in the second quarter but the Lady Warriors fought back, outscoring Kirksville 18-7 in the third quarter. KHS led 53-52 with 30 seconds left, but committed a foul and Warrenton made both free throws to take a one point lead. KHS would keep the ball for the remaining 30 seconds, trying to score a game winning basket. Nick Totta called two time outs in that span, the last with 7 seconds left. Kirksville tried to get the ball under the basket but Warrenton poked the ball out of bounds with 1.1 seconds left. Elli Porter found Lauren Fortney with the inbounds pass right under the basket, but Fortney’s shot would not go down and Warrenton hangs on 54-53. Jada Jackson led KHS with 14 points, Porter finished with 10. KHS dips to 4-4 on the year and will battle Notre Dame de Sion Friday at 4:00 right back at Hy-Vee Arena. Coverage on KIRX at 3:45.
