MLB Scores Sunday 9-25

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Atlanta 8 – PHILADELPHIA 7 (11 innings)… Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II stroked run-scoring singles in the top of the 11th inning sent the Braves past the Phillies. Dansby Swanson singled home a run and homered with a runner aboard for Atlanta.

Chi. Cubs 8 – PITTSBURGH 3… Patrick Wisdom’s 25th homer in the top of the fifth inning was a two-run shot that broke a scoreless tie and the Cubs rolled past the Pirates. Adrian Sampson (3-5) gave up a run on four hits over six innings.

CINCINNATI 2 – Milwaukee 1… Spencer Steer led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a tie-breaking homer and the Reds held on to down the Brewers. Austin Romine was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home the tying run in the fourth.

Washington 6 – MIAMI 1… Anibal Sanchez (3-6) pitched two-hit ball over five scoreless innings and the Nationals cruised past the Marlins. Joey Menesez provided all the offense Washington needed with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Miami announced before the game that manage Don Mattingly will not return as manager.

San Diego 13 – COLORADO 6… Back-to-back homers by Manny Machado and Brandon Drury highlighted a five-run top of the eighth inning as the Padres buried the Rockies. Jake Cronenworth knocked in three runs with a sacrifice fly and a two-run triple. San Diego increased its lead over Philadelphia to 1 1/2-games for the second NL wild card.

San Francisco 3 – ARIZONA 2… Evan Longoria came through with a pinch-hit two-run single in the top of the eighth inning and J.D. Davis capped a four-hit night with a decisive homer in the ninth as the Giants squeezed past the Diamondbacks. Jakob Junis (5-6) surrendered a run on four hits in 5-1/3 innings of relief to earn the victory.

L.A. DODGERS 4 – St. Louis 1… Michael Grove (1-0) held the Cardinals to a run on three hits over five innings to notch his first big-league victory in the Dodgers’ win. Freddie Freeman doubled home the game’s first run and came around to score in the top of the first inning. Will Smith had a couple of hits, including a run-scoring single.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Houston 6 – BALTIMORE 3 (11 innings)… The Astros came up with four runs in the top of the 10th inning to put away the Orioles after both teams scored single runs in the 10th. Christian Vázquez struck the big blow with a two-run single. Aledmys Diaz had three hits and scored a run.

Toronto 7 – TAMPA BAY 1… George Springer went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBIs as the Blue Jays breezed past the Rays. Teoscar Hernandez added a two-run homer. Alejandro Kirk also went deep. Ross Stripling (9-4) gave up a run on six hits over five innings.

L.A. Angels 10 – MINNESOTA 3… Mike Trout went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and the Angels handled the Twins. Luis Rengifo produced a two-run single. Livan Soto capped the scoring with a two-run double. Max Stassi also doubled home two runs.

Detroit 4 – CHI. WHITE SOX 1… Jonathan Schoop’s tie-breaking RBI single in the top of the eighth inning sparked a three-run rally that carried the Tigers past the White Sox. Victor Reyes’ run-scoring double tied the game in the seventh.

KANSAS CITY 13 – Seattle 12… The Royals erupted to score 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a nine-run deficit on their way past the Mariners. Michael Massey homered with a runner aboard and singled home two runs during the uprising.

Cleveland 10 – TEXAS 4… The Guardians ripped the Rangers to clinch the AL Central title. Steven Kwan had three hits, including a grand slam and an RBI single. Gabriel Arias legged out a two-run triple. Aaron Civale (3-6) allowed two runs on three hits over five innings.

N.Y. YANKEES 2 – Boston 0 (6 innings)… Nestor Cortex (11-4) gave up just one hit in a six-inning complete-game shutout as the Yankees clipped the Red Sox in a game shortened by rain in New York. Jose Trevino singled home the only run the Yankees needed in the bottom of the fourth inning.

INTERLEAGUE
N.Y. Mets 13 – OAKLAND 4… Pete Alonso went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and five RBIs in leading the Mets in their romp over the Athletics. Francisco Lindor had three hits, with three RBIs and three runs scored. Max Scherzer (11-4) allowed a run on four hits over six innings.
