Tigers Dominate Second Half To Beat Moberly

The Kirksville Tigers took control of the trenches in the second half and beat the Moberly Spartans Friday 34-14. The Tiger running game exploded in the second half courtesy of Drew Chrisman and Jackson Farwell, as did the KHS defense. The defense put a ton of pressure on Moberly quarterback Collin Huffman, with timely sacks by Jack Thomas and Nick Fortney. Huffman managed to throw for 200 yards and two touchdowns, but the Tigers held Moberly scoreless in the second half while scoring four unanswered touchdowns to pull away. Moberly took the opening kickoff and marched down the field to score on a nine yard catch by Gage St. Clair. The Tigers recovered a Moberly fumble and capitalized on a 25 yard catch from Isaac Danielson to Jalen Kent, but the PAT was blocked, it would stay 7-6 Moberly. Then the Spartans marched methodically down the field and scored on an 11 yard pass to Derieous Wallace, which would turn out to be the last time Moberly would score. Kirksville put together a brilliant two minute offense and scored on a 3 yard run by Chrisman who added the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 14-14 with :21 seconds left. Then it was all Kirksville in the second half. Chrisman scored again on a 14 yard run with 8:08 left in the third, Danielson ran three yards for another TD early in the fourth and on an 18 yard carry late in the game to salt it away 34-14. Danielson was 12 for 20 for 88 yards and a touchdown through the air,, but was victimized by too many dropped passes in the first half. Danielson rushed 10 times for 71 yards and two scores. Chrisman ran for 98 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. The Tigers climb to 2-2 on the year, 1-0 in the NCMC. Next, it’s the long sojourn to Marshall. Mexico beat Marshall 36-14 Friday.
