MLB Scores Sunday 8-28

NATIONAL LEAGUE
L.A. Dodgers 8 – MIAMI 1… Julio Urías (14-7) allowed just a Brian Anderson homer over six innings and got plenty of support as the Dodgers cruised past the Marlins. Mookie Betts homered to lead off the game and singled home a run. Trayce Thompson also went deep. Justin Turner had three hits and drove in two runs.

WASHINGTON 3 – Cincinnati 2… The Nationals eased past the Reds after spotting them an early two-run lead. Patrick Corbin (5-17) allowed two runs on four hits over six innings. One of the runs was unearned. Ildemaro Vargas hit a tie-breaking homer to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Riley Adams singled home the tying run in the fourth.

Pittsburgh 5 – PHILADELPHIA 0… Roansy Contreras (4-4) pitched three-hit ball over five innings and three relievers completed the Pirates’ blanking of the Phillies. Ke’Bryan Hayes singled home the only run Pittsburgh needed in the top of the first inning. Bligh Madris’ RBI double capped a three-run sixth.

Colorado 1 – N.Y. METS 0… Brian Serven’s sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning brought home CJ Cron with the game’s only run as the Rockies clipped the Mets. German Marquez (7-10) pitched one-hit ball over seven innings in outdueling tough-luck loser Max Scherzer (9-4).

MILWAUKEE 9 – Chi. Cubs 7… Christian Yelich and Kolten Wong each had three hits, including a two-run homer, to help power the Brewers past the Cubs. Hunter Renfroe and Garrett Mitchell added two RBIs apiece.

ST. LOUIS 6 – Atlanta 3… Tommy Edman hit a game-tying leadoff homer and Tyler O’Neill added a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the Cardinals past the Braves. Lars Nootbaar opened the scoring in the sixth with a two-out solo homer that broke up Atlanta starter Jake Odorizzi’s no-hit bid. Nolan Arenado added a run-scoring single three batters later to give St. Louis a two-run lead that it couldn’t hold.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
TAMPA BAY 12 – Boston 4… Isaac Paredes homered twice and drove in three runs as the Rays rolled past the Red Sox. David Peralta Randy Arozarena each had three hits and two RBIs. Corey Kluber (9-7) gave up three runs on eight hits over six innings.

L.A. Angels 8 – TORONTO 3… The Angels got two-run homers from Luis Rengifo and Shohei Ohtani, along with solo shots from Kurt Suzuki and Mike Trout, in their pounding of the Blue Jays. Trout also doubled home a run for L.A.

HOUSTON 3 – Baltimore 1… Yuli Gurriel singled home the game’s first two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Alex Bregman added a solo shot in the eighth to give the Astros a hard-fought win over the Orioles. Houston starter Justin Verlander left with calf tightness after pitching three scoreless innings.

Detroit 9 – TEXAS 8… The Tigers built a 9-0 lead after 5-1/2 innings and withstood a furious comeback to escape with a win over the Rangers. Jeimer Candelario homered with a runner aboard for Detroit. Harold Castro stroked a two-run single and cracked a bases-clearing double.

OAKLAND 4 – N.Y. Yankees 1… Adrian Martinez (3-3) held the Yankees to a run on three hits over 5-1/3 innings and four relievers did the rest as the Athletics breezed to the win. Stephen Vogt doubled home a run in the bottom of the first inning and scored on the first of Dermis Garcia’s two RBI singles.

SEATTLE 4 – Cleveland 0… Robbie Ray (11-8) pitched three-hit ball over seven innings and two Mariners’ relievers completed the shutout of the Guardians. Dylan Moore’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a scoreless tie. Ty France homered to lead off the seventh.

INTERLEAGUE
Arizona 3 – CHI. WHITE SOX 2… Brandon McCarthy doubled home Daulton Varsho with a tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth inning and the Diamondbacks hung on to edge the White Sox. Sergio Alcántara’s solo homer tied the game in the eighth for Arizona, which managed just three hits in the contest.

KANSAS CITY 15 – San Diego 7… The Royals opened with a five-run bottom of the first inning and buried the Padres with a six-run eighth. Michael Taylor had three hits, including a solo homer and drove in four runs. Salvador Perez went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer. Hunter Dozier had four hits and scored three runs.

MINNESOTA 8 – San Francisco 3… Max Kepler’s tie-breaking RBI double sparked a five-run bottom of the fifth inning that carried the Twins past the Giants. Jake Cave homered with a runner aboard and doubled home two runs for Minnesota.
