Philadelphia 4 – CINCINNATI 3… Edmundo Sosa stroked a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the third inning and his RBI double in the fifth proved to be decisive in the Phillies’ win over the Reds. Noah Syndergaard (7-8) allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings.

MIAMI 3 – San Diego 0… Sandy Alcantara (11-5) pitched four-hit ball over seven innings and two relievers preserved the Marlins’ shutout of the Padres. JJ Bleday’s homer to lead off the bottom of the second inning provided all the offense Miami needed. Miguel Rojas went 3-for-4 and scored twice.

WASHINGTON 5 – Chi. Cubs 4… Keibert Cruz hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Nationals made it stand in edging the Cubs. Cruz’s two-run double in the fifth capped a four-run rally that gave Washington a one-run lead it couldn’t hold.

L.A. Dodgers 4 – MILWAUKEE 0… Julio Urías (13-6) pitched four-hit ball over five innings and got help from four Dodgers relievers in the blanking of the Brewers. Freddie Freeman homered in the top of the first inning and Gavin Lux homered with a runner aboard in the sixth for L.A.

ATLANTA 13 – N.Y. Mets 1… The Braves used an eight-run bottom of the sixth inning to bury the Mets. Travis d’Arnaud blasted a three-run homer. Eddie Rosario and Willson Contreras added solo shots. Ronald Acuña, Jr., and Dansby Swanson each had three hits and three RBIs. Spencer Strider (7-4) allowed just a run on three hits over five innings.

SAN FRANCISCO 6 – Arizona 1… Joey Bart went 3-for-4 with a two-run single, Evan Longoria homered with a runner aboard and the Giants rolled past the Diamondbacks. Alex Cobb (4-6) held Arizona to a run on five hits over six innings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
CLEVELAND 4 – Detroit 1… Andrés Giménez cracked a tie-breaking three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to power the Guardians past the Tigers in the opener of a doubleheader. Starter Aaron Civale surrendered a run on three hits and struck out 10 over six innings before three relievers held Detroit hitless the rest of the way. The win went to reliever James Karinchack (1-0).

Detroit 7 – CLEVELAND 5… Run-scoring singles by Tucker Barnhart and Victor Reyes in the top of the eighth inning carried the Tigers past the Guardians for a split of the twinbill. Jonathan Schoop and Kerry Carpenter hit back-to-back solo homers in the sixth. Barnhart, Reyes and Carpenter had three hits apiece.

Tampa Bay 4 – N.Y. YANKEES 0… Five Rays pitchers scattered seven hits in shutting out the Yankees. Ryan Yarbrough (1-7) got the win with four innings of relief. Yandy Diaz had a couple of hits, including a two-run single, for Tampa Bay.

Baltimore 7 – TORONTO 3… Tylers Nevin’s tie-breaking RBI infield grounder sparked a three-run top of the fourth inning that sent the Orioles past the Blue Jays. Ryan Mountcastle smacked a two-run homer. Ryan McKenna had three hits and an RBI.

MINNESOTA 4 – Kansas City 2… The Twins eased past the Royals after spotting them an early two-run lead. Jorge Polanco lifted a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning. Max Kepler went 3-for-4 with an RBI single.

TEXAS 2 – Oakland 1… Glenn Otto (5-8) allowed just a run on two hits over six innings in outdueling counterpart James Kaprielian (3-7) and the Rangers held off the Athletics. Marcus Semien hit a game-tying homer in the bottom of the third inning and Bubba Thompson singled home the decisive run in the sixth.

CHI. WHITE SOX 4 – Houston 2… Eloy Jiménez stroked a game-tying two-run double and Yoan Moncada followed with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the White Sox a come-from-behind win over the Astros. Johnny Cueto (5-5) gave up two first-inning runs and six hits over eight innings. One of the runs was unearned.

Seattle 6 – L.A. ANGELS 2… Multiple misplays by Angels catcher Max Stassi in the top of the ninth inning led to a four-run uprising that handed the Mariners the win. Jesse Winker homered and drove in two runs for Seattle. J.P. Crawford produced a pair of run-scoring singles.
