NATIONAL LEAGUE
Miami 3 – PHILADELPHIA 0… Edward Cabrera (3-1) pitched three-hit ball over 5-2/3 innings and three relievers completed the Marlins’ blanking of the Phillies. Joey Wendle singled home the only run Miami needed in the top of the second inning.
COLORADO 8 – St. Louis 6… The Rockies used a six-run bottom of the seventh inning to get past the Cardinals. Brendan Rodgers belted a three-run homer and Ryan McMahon followed with a solo shot to cap the uprising. Brian Serven put Colorado on the board with a two-run double in the second.
ARIZONA 9 – Pittsburgh 3… Dalton Varsho’s bases-clearing double highlighted a seven-run bottom of the seventh inning that carried the Diamondbacks past the Pirates. Emmanuel Rivera homered with the bases empty and stroked a two-run double.
Chi. Cubs 4 – CINCINNATI 2… The Cubs opened with a three-run top of the first inning and breezed past the Reds. Nick Madrigal had three hits, including a run-scoring single. Drew Smyly (5-6) limited Cincinnati to four hits over six scoreless innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Cleveland 4 – DETROIT 3 (10 innings)… The Guardians recovered to outlast the Tigers after blowing a two-run ninth-inning lead. Oscar Gonzalez singled home Jose Ramírez with a tie-breaking run in the top of the 10th inning. Steven Kwan homered with the bases empty for Cleveland.
KANSAS CITY 5 – Chi. White Sox 3… Zack Greinke (4-7) scattered nine hits over 6-1/3 scoreless innings and the Royals eased past the White Sox. Nicky Lopez had a couple of hits, including a two-run single. Vinnie Pasquantino hit a solo homer.
HOUSTON 7 – Texas 3… The Astros got a three-run homer from Martin Maldonado and a two-run shot from Alex Bregman in cruising past the Rangers. Bregman also singled home a run. Framber Valdez (11-4) pitched four-hit ball over seven scoreless innings.
BOSTON 4 – Baltimore 3… Eric Hosmer’s tie-breaking RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Red Sox edged the Orioles. Xavier Bogaerts had a couple of hits and knocked in a run.
