Chiefs Strengthen D-Line

Veteran defensive end Carlos Dunlap is signing a one-year deal worth up to $8 million with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs’ defense was 29th in the league in sacks last season and lost one of its top pass-rushers in veteran Melvin Ingram, who left in free agency to the Miami Dolphins.

The Seattle Seahawks released Dunlap on March 18 as their defense continues to transition to more of a 3-4 structure up front. Dunlap is more of a traditional 4-3 defensive end, which likely was a factor in his release.

Dunlap spent his first 10½ seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, who drafted him in the second round out of Florida in 2010. The Seahawks acquired him via a midseason trade ahead of the 2020 deadline.
