Wainwright Sharp In Cards Win Over Jays

Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer and finished with three hits, passing Rogers Hornsby on St. Louis’ career list, and the Cardinals beat Toronto’s 6-1 Wednesday night.

Adam Wainwright pitched seven sparkling innings to help St. Louis earn a split of the two-game set.  He allowed just one run on five hits and struck out eight.

Nolan Gorman homered, and Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbaar each hit an RBI double.

Yadier Molina (right knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday and could be activated next week, OF Harrison Bader will be shut down for several weeks because of a right heel injury.

A day off Thursday, then RHP Miles Mikolas (7-8, 2.87 ERA) will start Friday’s game at Washington, 5:10 with the pregame and the first pitch at 6:05 on KIRX.

The Brewers beat the Twins 10-4 to stay three games ahead of the Cardinals.

The Cardinals remain in the third wild card spot.
