Joann Folkerts Swanson, 90, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Friday morning, July 22, 2022 at the LaBelle Manor in LaBelle, Missouri.
Joann was born on July 18, 1932, in Donna, Texas, the daughter of Hikko Bernard and Alma Gertrude Terveen Brown.
She graduated from the Donna High School in Donna, Texas, in the Class of 1950.
On December 31, 1954, in Donna, Texas, Joann married Marvin Gerald Folkerts and four children were born.
Joann and Marvin moved their family to Northeast Missouri in March of 1965 to make their home. She worked as a cook for the Edina Elementary and High School and after the schools consolidated she worked in the Knox County High School and Elementary School before retiring.
Joann was very active in the Edina First Baptist Church and later moved her membership to the Knox City Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers but her first love was playing the piano from a very young age and visiting with her church family.
Joann is survived by her children, Beth Ann Russell of Edina, Missouri, Mark and Martha Folkerts of Jasper, Indiana, and Charity and Kevin Crouse of Canal Winchester, Ohio; two brothers, Douglas Brown of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Teddy and Gwyn Brown of Arkansas; five sisters, Karen Guenther of Maryville, Tennessee, Rosalie and Ronnie Sublet of Cedar Park, Texas, Loretta and Jimmy Shuttlesworth of Azle, Texas, Wanda and Kent Grosser of Humble, Texas, and Sheila Brown of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Trevor Folkerts of Jasper, Indiana, Gunnar, Gavin, and Sydney Crouse all of Canal Winchester, Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Folkerts on March 11, 2005; a daughter in infancy, Blythe Joann Folkerts; and a brother, Eugene Brown.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 28, 2022, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Greensburg Cemetery, in Greensburg, Missouri.
