NATIONAL LEAGUE
Pittsburgh 4 – CINCINNATI 2… Roansy Contreras (3-2) allowed just a run on four hits over six inning and the Pirates downed the Reds in the opener of a doubleheader. Michael Chavis lined a tie-breaking two-run double in the top of the sixth inning. Diego Castillo had a couple of hits, including a solo homer.
CINCINNATI 5 – Pittsburgh 1… Brandon Drury tripled home two runs and scored during a four-run bottom of the seventh inning that pushed the Reds past the Pirates for a split of the twinbill. Four Cincinnati pitchers combined on a five-hitter.
PHILADELPHIA 5 – Washington 3… Darick Hall doubled home a run and homered with the bases empty in leading the Phillies past the Nationals. Didi Gregorius tripled home a go-ahead run in the bottom of the third inning.
N.Y. METS 10 – Miami 0… James McCann cracked a three-run homer and J.D. Davis unloaded a grand slam as the Mets walloped the Marlins. Trevor Williams (3-5) pitched two-hit ball over seven innings and reliever Jake Reed completed the shutout.
St. Louis 3 – ATLANTA 2 (11 innings)… Dylan Carlson capped a 3-for-3 night with an infield single that scored Nolan Arenado with the decisive run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Cardinals outlasted the Braves. Both teams scored single runs in the 10th and seventh innings.
Colorado 4 – ARIZONA 3… Randal Grichuk singled home a tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth inning and the Rockies made it stand in their win over the Diamondbacks. Kris Byant doubled home a run and scored on Brendan Rogers’ single in the first.
SAN DIEGO 2 – San Francisco 1 (10 innings)… Pinch-hitter Jorge Alfaro singled home Ha-Seong Kim with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Padres outlasted the Giants. Manny Machado blasted a solo homer for San Diego.
L.A. DODGERS 5 – Chi. Cubs 2… Mookie Betts hit a pair solo homers to help power the Dodgers past the Cubs. Gavin Lux homered with a runner aboard and Justin Turner also went deep for L.A. Tony Gonsolin (11-0) surrendered two runs on four hits over six innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
HOUSTON 5 – Kansas City 2… The Astros cruised past the Royals after spotting them an early two-run lead. Jose Altuve hit a two-run homer and Yordan Alvarez smacked a solo shot during a three-run bottom of the fifth inning. Justin Verlander (11-3) gave up two runs on seven hits over six innings. One of the runs was unearned.
BALTIMORE 4 – L.A. Angels 1… Jordan Lyles (5-7) limited the Angels to a run on five hits over six innings and the Orioles breezed to the victory. Ryan Mountcastle doubled home a run and lifted a sacrifice fly. Adley Rutschman homered with the bases empty.
N.Y. Yankees 6 – BOSTON 5… Josh Donaldson belted a grand slam and Aaron Hicks followed with a solo shot during a five-run top of the third inning and Jose Trevino’s RBI double in the fifth proved to the difference as the Yankees’ held off the Red Sox.
Detroit 2 – CHI. WHITE SOX 1… Spencer Torkelson came through with a pinch-hit RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Tigers the insurance run they needed in their win over the White Sox. Javier Baez homered in the fourth. Beau Brieske (2-6) pitched two-hit ball over 6-1/3 scoreless innings in outdueling Dylan Cease (7-4).
SEATTLE 8 – Toronto 3… The Mariners built a big lead early and never looked back in their win over the Blue Jays. Cal Raleigh singled home a run and hit a two-run homer. Eugenio Suarez hit a two-run single and homered.
