NATIONAL LEAGUE
ST. LOUIS 3 – Pittsburgh 1… Paul Goldschmidt drove in all three runs with a two-run homer and an RBI grounder as the Cardinals clipped the Pirates in the doubleheader opener. Matthew Liberatore (2-2) pitched three-hit ball over five scoreless innings.
ST. LOUIS 9 – Pittsburgh 1… The Cardinals rolled past the Pirates to complete a sweep of the twinbill. Starter Miles Mikolas (5-4) came within one strike of a no-hitter and got plenty of support. Paul Goldschmidt went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Tommy Edman went 3-for-5 with a homer to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
Atlanta 10 – WASHINGTON 4… Travis d’Arnaud had three hits, including a three-run homer, and the Braves battered the Nationals. Marcel Ozuna, Orlando Arcia, Dansby Swanson and Michael Harris II also went deep.
Miami 11 – PHILADELPHIA 9… The Marlins blew an early four-run lead and then came from four runs down to get past the Philliies. Jesus Aguilar homered with a runner aboard and doubled home the tying and go-ahead runs to cap a three-run top of the ninth inning. Miami also got homers from Avisail García, Jacob Stallings and Jazz Chisholm Jr.
N.Y. METS 4 – Milwaukee 0… Chris Bassitt (5-4) limited the Brewers to three hits over eight innings and reliever Drew Smith completed the Mets’ blanking of the Brewers. Pete Alonso produced a pair of run-scoring singles for New York.
San Diego 12 – CHI. CUBS 5… The Padres came from five runs down after six innings to blow away the Cubs. Luke Voit homered with a runner aboard and stroked a bases-clearing double. Nomar Mazara drove in three runs with a pair of singles.
Cincinnati 5 – ARIZONA 3 (12 innings)… The Reds outlasted the Diamondbacks in a contest that was scoreless after nine innings. Albert Almora tripled home a tie-breaking run and scored on Jonathan India’s single in the top of the 12th inning. Both teams scored single runs in the 10th and added three runs in the 11th.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. YANKEES 2 – Tampa Bay 0… Gerrit Cole (6-1) pitched five-hit ball over six innings and got help from three relievers in the Yankees’ shutout of the Rays. Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth inning provided all the offense New York needed.
Baltimore 6 – TORONTO 5… Ryan Mountcastle went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer in leading the Orioles past the Blue Jays. Austin Hays added a solo homer.
Chi. White Sox 5 – DETROIT 1… Dylan Cease (5-3) held the Tigers to a run on seven hits over five innings and the White Sox cruised to the win. Luis Robert stroked a pair of RBI singles.
BOSTON 6 – Oakland 1… Nick Pivetta surrendered just a run on three hits over eight innings and the Red Sox blew breezed the Athletics. Rafael Devers belted a three-run homer. J.D. Martinez also went deep.
Houston 4 – TEXAS 3… The Astros came alive to score all four runs in the top of the eighth inning and upend the Rangers. Kyle Tucker capped the uprising with a go-ahead, two-run homer.
SEATTLE 5 – Minnesota 0… Logan Gilbert (7-2) pitched four-hit ball over six innings and three Mariners relievers held the Twins hitless the rest of the way in preserving the shutout. Eugenio Suarez and Ty France hit two-run homers for Seattle.
INTERLEAGUE
Cleveland 4 – COLORADO 3 (10 innings)… Jose Ramirez doubled home a tie-breaking run in the top of the 10th inning and the Guardians made it stand in outlasting the Rockies. Ramirez’ two-run single opened the scoring in the third.
SAN FRANCISCO 4 – Kansas City 2… Logan Webb (6-2) held the Royals to five hits over seven scoreless innings and the Giants held on for the win. Wilmer Flores’ run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie and sparked a three-run rally.
L.A. DODGERS 2 – L.A. Angels 0… Tony Gonsolin (8-0) allowed just one hit over 6-1/3 innings and three Dodgers relievers shut the door on the Angels. Justin Turner drew a bases-loaded walk and Mookie Betts homered for the Dodgers.
