NATIONAL LEAGUE
MILWAUKEE 4 – Pittsburgh 2… The Brewers downed the Pirates to complete a three-game sweep. Brandon Woodruff (2-1) pitched one-hit ball over six scoreless innings. Rowdy Tellez smacked a solo homer and Keston Hiura added a three-run shot.
L.A. DODGERS 5 – Atlanta 1… Tony Gonsolin (1-0) limited the Braves to one hit over six shutout innings and the Dodgers took two of three in the series. Freddie Freeman homered with a runner aboard against his former team in the bottom of the first inning.
Philadelphia 9 – COLORADO 6… The Phillies used a five-run top of the seventh inning to get past the Rockies. Johan Camargo went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer.. Nick Castellanos, Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm also went deep for Philadelphia.
SAN DIEGO 6 – Cincinnati 0… MacKenzie Gore (1-0) pitched four-hit ball over five innings and four relievers completed the shutout as the Padres dealt the Reds their ninth straight loss. Jurickson Profar homered with a runner aboard for San Diego.
St. Louis 2 – MIAMI 0… Nolan Arenado provided the game’s only offense with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning and the Cardinals clipped the Marlins. The game featured a duel between St. Louis starter Miles Mikolas and his counterpart Sandy Alcantara, but neither got a decision.
Arizona 11 – WASHINGTON 2… Daulton Varsho drilled a two-run homer and lifted a sacrifice fly as the Diamondbacks trounced the Nationals. Sam Beer went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Merrill Kelly (1-0) gave up a run on six hits over six innings.
San Francisco 5 – N.Y. METS 2… Carlos Rodón pitched three-hit ball over five scoreless innings and the Giants downed the Mets. Brandon Belt smacked a solo homer. Mike Yastrzemski and Joc Pederson each had a couple of hits and an RBI.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
CLEVELAND 11 – Chi. White Sox 1… José Ramírez unloaded his second grand slam of the season during a nine-run bottom of the second inning to highlight the Guardians’ pounding of the White Sox in the opener of a doubleheader. Shane Bieber (1-0) allowed just a run on four hits over six innings.
CLEVELAND 2 – Chi. White Sox 1… José Ramírez and Oscar Mercado produced run-scoring doubles as the Guardians held off the White Sox to complete a sweep of the twinbill. Five Cleveland pitchers combined on a three-hitter.
Baltimore 1 – OAKLAND 0… Jordan Lyles (1-1) scattered six hits over five scoreless innings and four relievers did the rest in the Orioles’ blanking of the Athletics. Ryan McKenna scored the game’s only run on in the top of the fifth inning in a fielding error by Oakland shortstop Elvis Andrus.
L.A. Angels 6 – HOUSTON 0… Shohei Ohtani (1-2) allowed just one hit and struck out 12 in a strong six-inning effort and two Angels relievers held the Astros hitless the rest of the way. Ohtani helped himself at the plate with a two-run double to spark a six-run top of the first inning.
N.Y. Yankees 5 – DETROIT 3… Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled home a tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh inning and the Yankees held off the Tigers. Anthony Rizzo homered with the bases empty and knocked in a run with an infield grounder.
Toronto 6 – BOSTON 1… Raimel Tapia stroked a go-ahead, two-run homer during a five-run top of the second inning for and the Blue Jays cruised past the Red Sox. José Berríos (1-0) gave up a run on eight hits over six innings.
KANSAS CITY 2 – Minnesota 0… Daniel Lynch (1-1) and four relievers combined bo blank the Twins. Lynch gave up four hits over five innings. Whit Merrifield scored the only run Kansas City needed in the bottom of the first inning on Bobby Witt Jr.’s double-play grounder. Andrew Benintendi scored on Adalberto Mondesi’s bunt single in the fifth.
SEATTLE 4 – Texas 2… Logan Gilbert scattered six hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings and the Mariners got the better of the Rangers. Adam Frazier went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Ty France had a couple of hits and an RBI.
INTERLEAGUE
Tampa Bay 8 – CHI. CUBS 2 (6 innings)… Francisco Mejia hit a two-run homer during a four-run top of the first inning and doubled home a run as the Rays ripped the Cubs in a game called after 5-1/2 innings due to rain. Josh Lowe tripled, doubled and knocked in a run.
