MILWAUKEE 6 – Pittsburgh 1… Christian Yelich unloaded a grand slam to cap a five-run bottom of the fourth inning that carried the Brewers past the Pirates. Eric Lauer (1-0) limited Pittsburgh to a run on five hits over six innings.
COLORADO 4 – Philadelphia 1… Chad Kuhl (1-0) allowed just two singles over six shutout innings and the Rockies handled the Phillies. Charlie Blackmon’s homer to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie.
SAN DIEGO 4 – Cincinnati 1… Manny Machado had three hits, including a two-run homer, as the Padres dealt the Reds their seventh straight loss. Sean Manaea (2-1) held Cincinnati to a run on six hits over six innings.
L.A. DODGERS 7 – Atlanta 4… Trea Turner’s bases-clearing double capped a five-run bottom of the fourth inning and the Dodgers coasted past the Braves. Cody Bellinger added a solo homer for L.A.
Arizona – WASHINGTON – Arizona… Rain in the nation’s capital forced postponement of last night’s Diamondbacks-Nationals game. It will be made up today as part of a day-night doubleheader.
San Francisco – N.Y. METS (ppd)… Rain in New York forced postponement of last night’s Giants-Mets game. It will be made up today as part of a doubleheader.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Minnesota 8 – BOSTON 3… Jorge Polanco homered with a runner aboard and stroked a two-run single in leading the Twins past the Red Sox. Kyle Garlick also hit a two-run homer for Minnesota. Dylan Bundy (2-0) allowed a run on five hits over 5-1/3 innings.
HOUSTON 8 – L.A. Angels 3… Yordan Alvarez homered twice and drove in four runs as the Astros ripped the Angels in their home opener. Michael Brantley had a couple of hits and an RBI.
OAKLAND 5 – Baltimore 1… Frankie Montas (2-1) pitched two-hit ball over six innings and the Athletics downed the Orioles in their home opener. Oakland came up with four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
CLEVELAND – Chi. White Sox – CLEVELAND… Bad weather in Cleveland forced postponement of last night’s White Sox-Guardians game. It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on July 12.
INTERLEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 4 – Tampa Bay 2… Ian Happ singled home Seiya Suzuki with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the seventh inning and Frank Schwindel homered in the eighth as the Cubs topped the Rays. Suzuki extended his hitting streak to nine games.
