The Kirksville Lady Tigers led from start to finish and beat Mexico 62-38 in the first round of the Class 4 District 8 tournament at Centralia Saturday afternoon. KHS got very balanced efforts both offensively and defensively. Corinne Vorkink and Jada Jackson led the way with 12 points, Elli Porter and Jada Jackson each had 11. Mexico’s Mya Miller picked up 21 points and was 11 for 12 at the free throw line. Riley Thurman was the only other Bulldog who contributed much, scoring 13, but nine of those were in the fourth quarter when the outcome was no longer in doubt. Kirksville finishes 3-1 in the season series with Mexico, having won the last three. They get to 20-4 on the year and will get ready for the big rematch with Moberly Tuesday at 7:30 right back at Centralia High School. Coverage on KIRX around 7:10. At 6:00 Tuesday top seed Hallsville will take on Macon. Macon held on for dear life in Saturday’s other first round game 33-31.
