Cathy Nell Lay, 70, of rural Edina, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Cathy was born on December 27, 1951, the daughter of Clifford and Carolyn Saxbury Lay, in Kirksville, Missouri.
She attended Davis Rural School and graduated from the Queen City High School in the Class of 1969. She was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church west of Greentop. She grew up on a farm west of Greentop, Missouri, and was very active in the 4-H all her life. She loved all kinds of animals and showed Brown Swiss cattle and horses (her special horse, Sandy. God gave her a real talent with animals and she loved raising sheep, and did a tremendous job with them.
Cathy was also very educated, she had a teaching degree in English and taught some before going on to receive a degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse, served as Schyler County Health Nurse, and loved taking care of the elderly and children of the county. Her love for animals called her back to the farm, and she later moved to rural Hurdland, Missouri to be close to her sister, Marilyn.
Cathy is survived by her sister, Marilyn Hunziker of Hurdland, Missouri; tow nephews, Addison and Theresa Hunziker, and Hayden and Libby Hunziker; a special niece, Gracie Hunziker; a great newphew, Corbin; and two great nieces, Kamyrn and Mariah Hunziker. She was one who dearly loved her family and spent as much time with them as possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother; a nephew, Kalon Hunziker; a brother-in-law, Kirby Hunziker; grandparents; and a special friend, Freda Witt.
Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the Rock Creek Cemetery west of Edina, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Doss Funeral Home in Edina. MO.
