Gilbert Arthur (Albright) Schmitter, 79 of Queen City, Missouri passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
The son of Samuel Godfred and Emma Marqueritte (Smith) Schmitter, he was born on April 7, 1942 in Queen City, Missouri. Gilbert was a graduate of the Queen City High School in Queen City, Missouri. On December 7, 1969 in Downing, Missouri, Gilbert was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” Poe.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Judy of 52 years from Queen City, Missouri; three sons, Timothy Swanson (Tammy) of Columbia, Missouri, Todd Schmitter (Dena) of Memphis, Missouri and Jason Schmitter (Angela) of Lancaster, Missouri; two daughters, Krista Cooper (Rodney) of Greentop, Missouri and Kala Schmitter of Columbia, Missouri; two brothers, Virgil Schmitter (Clarabelle) and William Schmitter (Jeannie) both of Queen City, Missouri; two sisters, Wilma Kirkman (Robert) of Newton, Iowa and Naomi Schmitter (Jay Hehir) of Unionville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Dakota Schmitter (Tara Lovekamp), Zachary Schmitter (Ray’ven), Haley McElhinney (Lucas), Jace and Wade Cooper, Timothy and Tiara Swanson and three great grandchildren, Drake Macomber, Brantlee and Brinklee McElhinney; nieces and nephews; cousins and other family members.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents and one infant grandson, Gage Alan Schmitter.
Gilbert served with the Army National Guard during 1961 through 1967 and received an Honorable Discharge on August 13, 1967.
Gilbert worked for Johns Seed and Supply Company in Queen City, Missouri for a number of years along with farming and caring for his livestock. Gilbert and Judy enjoyed watching their children, grandchildren and other family members participating in sports of all kinds. They also enjoyed sitting on the porch enjoying and watching the hummingbirds!
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Music will be special CD selections of “Scars In Heaven “, “One More Day” and “Daddy’s Hands.” Pallbearers will be Mike Schmitter, Brent Schmitter, David Kirkman, Colton Poe, Doug Poe and Terry Woodruff. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dakota Schmitter, Zachary Schmitter, Jace Cooper and Wade Cooper. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund or Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, Missouri.
