Bulldog Women Survive Against Maryville

A late three-point attempt by Maryville was just off and the Truman Women’s Basketball team picked up their first conference win by a 70-67 margin over the Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Allison Thomas recorded a double-double after making her first start of the season. She scored 10 points and added 10 rebounds. All five starters scored in double-figures with Hannah Belanger leading the way with 17 points.

Maryville (4-4; 1-2 GLVC) grabbed a 14-7 first quarter lead but an offensive rebound and put back by Maddie Re jumped Truman on top 17-16. The Saints would regain the lead and led 29-25 at the half.

The third quarter was the Bulldogs best statistically. Truman shot 53% from the field in the third and outscored the Saints 22-14 to go into the final quarter up 47-43.

Hunter Stidham drilled a fast-break three-pointer to put Maryville back up 49-48 but Ellie Weltha answered at the other end to leapfrog Truman back on top.

It would be tied at 50 when Belanger hit the triple to put the ‘Dogs win front by good.

The Bulldogs (4-5; 1-1 GLVC) led by as many as eight with 3:25 to play but the Saints stormed back.

It would be a one-point Truman lead following another Stidham three-pointer with 10 seconds left to play. Weltha would make both free throws to extend the lead back to three for the final possession.

After the inbounds, Brioenne Burns disrupted the play forcing Maryville to scramble for a shot. Stidham would gain possession but her deep triple clanged off the iron for the Truman win.

Taylor Kirby led Maryville with 20 points.

Truman shot 44% for the game with four triples.

The Bulldogs will take an extended break and be off until a December 19 non-conference game against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.). Tip off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
