KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman offense sprinted out to a 28-0 lead and rolled past the Quincy Hawks 49-28 to improve to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in the GLVC. Quarterback Nolan Hair was 20-of-25 for 325 yards and tossed five touchdown passes.
Hair was 16-of-19 in the first 30 minutes of the game as he found Jacob Morris on a 14-yard strike to open the scoring at the 12:42 mark of the first quarter. He would connect with Tate Crane for 27-yards to cap off a six-play 93-yard drive on Truman’s next possession.
In the second, Hair hit Matt Hall for a six-yard pass and Dante Ruffin for a 16-yard pass just before half to put Truman comfortably up 28-0 at the break.
The Bulldogs amassed 522 yards on the afternoon with Cody Schrader adding yet another 100-yard rushing game with 119 on 21 carries and a score. Schrader vaulted four spots on the single-season rushing list at Truman and now sits in seventh position with 1,436 yards.
Eight different receivers caught the 22 completed passes on the day led by Chris Kerr’s four catches for 65 yards.
The Bulldog defense pitched a first half shutout before Quincy took the second half kickoff 16-plays for 54-yards that was capped off by a one-yard run by Tremayne Lee. That broke a six-quarter shutout streak by the Bulldogs after last week’s blanking of William Jewell.
The Hawks did gain 422 yards on the day but three interceptions and four quarterback sacks was the story on the day. Ben Thomas had two of the three picks and returned one for 35 yards. Ryan Olivas had the other. The four sacks were recorded by Ben Watson, Michael Neisler, Isaiah Estes with Collin Bohnenkamp and Ulysses Ross sharing a sack.
Truman got second half scores on a 32-yard pass to Dante Ruffin, a four-yard run by Jaylen Jefferson and a two-yard dance by Schrader.
The Bulldogs will be on the road next Saturday when they face McKendree in Lebanon, Illinois at 1 p.m.
