NHL SCOREBOARD…
TORONTO 2 – Montreal 1… William Nylander broke a tie at 1:06 of the third period and the Maple Leafs held on to beat the Canadiens. Goalie Jack Campbell made 31 saves for Toronto. Pierre Engvall netted a tying goal on a power play midway through the second.

WASHINGTON 5 – N.Y. Rangers 1… Alex Ovechkin netted a pair of goals as the Capitals skated past the Rangers. He passed Marcel Dionne for fifth on the career goals list. Hendrix Lapierre found the net in his NHL debut.

ANAHEIM 4 – Winnipeg 1… 18-year-old Mason McTavish became the youngest player in Anaheim history to score a goal and assisted on Adam Henrique’s power-play goal in the second period. Isac Lundestrom and Jakob Silfverberg both had two assists. John Gibson made 33 saves at goal.

COLORADO 4 – Chicago 2… 20-year-old Bowen Byram scored his first NHL goal and added an assist in the Avalanche’s win over the Blackhawks. Nazem Kadri and Gabriel Landeskog each had a goal and an assist also. Goalie Darcy Kuemper stopped 32 shots.

EDMONTON 3 – Vancouver 2 (SO)… The Oilers recovered to outlast the Canucks after blowing a two-goal third-period lead. Kyle Turris scored winning goal in the shootout. Jesse Puljujarvi and Zach Hyman scored in regulation. Edmonton also got a pair of assists from Connor McDavid. Mike Smith made 36 saves at goal.
