CINCINNATI 3 – Miami 1… Victor Gutierrez (9-4) allowed just a run on three hits over seven innings and the Reds completed a sweep of the Marlins. Tyler Naquin smacked a pair of solo homers and Mike Moustakas also went deep.
MILWAUKEE 7 – Washington 3… Kolten Wong homered to lead off the bottom of the first inning and legged out a two-run triple in the fourth as the Brewers cruised past the Nationals. Lorenzo Cain added a two-run homer.
ST. LOUIS 3 – Pittsburgh 0… Adam Wainwright (12-7) pitched two-hit ball over eight innings and reliever Alex Reyes completed the shutout of the Pirates. Yadier Molina singled home the only run the Cardinals needed in the bottom of the first inning. Paul Goldschmidt homered to lead off the fifth.
Arizona 8 – COLORADO 4… Daulton Varsho belted a three-run homer and tripled home a run in leading the Diamondbacks past the Rockies. Christian Walker also went deep Taylor Widener (2-1) surrendered just a run on one hit over five innings.
Philadelphia 7 – SAN DIEGO 4… Odubel Herrera went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and a two-run single to lead the Phillies past the Padres. Rhys Hoskins homered twice with the bases empty. J.T. Realmuto added a two-run shot. Kyle Gibson (9-5) held San Diego to a run on six hits over eight innings.
N.Y. Mets 7 – L.A. DODGERS 2… The Mets came up with four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in downing the Dodgers. J.D. Davis singled home a run, hit a two-run homer and drew a bases-loaded walk. Marcus Stroman (9-12) gave up two runs on four hits over six innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Detroit 5 – TORONTO 3 (11 innings)… Run-scoring doubles by Daz Cameron and Willi Castro in the top of the 11th inning sent the Tigers past the Blue Jays. Miguel Cabrera cracked his 500th career homer in the top of the sixth inning, becoming the 28th player to reach the plateau and the first since David Ortiz in 2015.
TAMPA BAY 9 – Chi. White Sox 0… Austin Meadows went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in the Rays’ romp over the White Sox. Francisco Mejia lined a bases-clearing double. Five Rays pitchers scattered seven hits in the shutout.
Seattle 6 – HOUSTON 3 (11 innings)… The Mariners came from two runs down in the eighth inning to outlast the Astros. Ty France led off the top of the ninth with a game-tying homer and singled home a run to spark a four-run top of the 11th inning. Kyle Seager’s three-run homer provided the winning margin.
CLEVELAND 3 – L.A. Angels 0… Cal Quantrill (4-2) limited the Angels to two hits over seven innings and the Indians breezed to the win. Amed Rosario provided all the offense Cleveland needed with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
Minnesota – N.Y. YANKEES (ppd)… The forecast of inclement weather in New York forced cancellation of yesterday’s Twins-Yankees game. It has been rescheduled for September 13.
Texas – BOSTON (ppd)… The forecast of inclement weather in Boston forced cancellation of yesterday’s Rangers-Red Sox game. It has been rescheduled for today.
INTERLEAGUE
Atlanta 3 – BALTIMORE 1… Touki Toussaint (3-2) allowed just a run on three hits over 5-1/3 innings as the Braves clipped the Orioles. Jorge Soler homered and Adam Duval lined a two-run double as Atlanta scored all three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Kansas City 9 – CHI. CUBS 1… The Royals throttled the Cubs with a 16-hit attack.
Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-4 and knocked in three runs. Carlos Hernández (4-1) limited Chicago to a run on four hits over seven innings.
San Francisco 2 – OAKLAND 1… Donovan Solano’s two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning lifted the Giants over the Athletics. The game featured a duel between San Francisco starter Logan Webb and his counterpart Frankie Montas, but neither got a decision.
