WASHINGTON 5 – N.Y. Mets 2… Kyle Schwarber homered three times after hitting a pair of homers on Saturday to power the Nationals past the Mets. Patrick Corbin (5-5) allowed two runs on four hits over six innings.
St. Louis 9 – ATLANTA 1 (7 innings)… Adam Wainwright (5-5) held the Braves to three hits and struck out 11 in the complete-game victory to open a doubleheader. Paul Goldschmidt blasted a three-run homer and singled home a run. Nolan Arenado homered with a runner aboard and drew a bases-loaded walk.
ATLANTA 1 – St. Louis 0 (7 innings)… Drew Smyly (4-3) pitched one-hit ball over 5-2/3 innings and got help from two relievers as the Braves claimed a split of the twinbill. Ronald Acuña Jr.’s third-inning homer accounted for the game’s only run.
CHI. CUBS 2 – Miami 0… Alex Mills (3-1) scattered six hits over six innings and three relievers completed the Cubs’ blanking of the Marlins. Jason Heyward scored the only run Chicago needed on a passed ball in the bottom of the third inning. Joc Pederson’s infield single added an insurance run in the fifth.
Milwaukee 7 – COLORADO 6… The Brewers recovered to top the Rockies after blowing a 6-0 sixth-inning lead. Daniel Vogelbach singled home Peterson with the decisive run in the top of the ninth inning. Kolton Wong hit a two-run homer for Milwaukee. Colorado homered four times in scoring all six runs to tie the game in the sixth.
SAN FRANCISCO 11 – Philadelphia 2… The Giants pounded out 15 hits in their thrashing of the Phillies. Mike Yastrzemski got things going with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon Crawford also homered with a runner aboard and added a two-run double. Wilmer Flores hit a bases-empty homer.
SAN DIEGO 3 – Cincinnati 2… Wil Myers legged out a two-run triple and scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the third inning and the Padres hung on to edge the Reds and complete a four-game sweep. Dinelson Lamet (2-2) pitched four-hit ball over five scoreless innings.
L.A. Dodgers 9 – ARIZONA 8… The Dodgers took a 9-1 lead into the sixth inning and held on to hand the Diamondbacks their 17th straight loss. Albert Pujols blasted a three-run homer. AJ Pollock went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and knocked in three runs.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. YANKEES 2 – Oakland 1… The Yankees turned their third triple play of the season to strand the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning and hold off the Athletics. Gary Sanchez gave New York the lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Toronto 7 – BALTIMORE 4… Reese McGuire went 4-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs in leading the Blue Jays past the Orioles. Hyun Jin Ryu (6-3) allowed just a run on three hits over seven innings.
KANSAS CITY 7 – Boston 3… The Royals cruised past the Red Sox after spotting them an early two-run lead. Jarrod Dyson stroked a tie-breaking two-run double in the bottom of the third inning. Whit Merrifield homered with a runner aboard in the sixth.
HOUSTON 8 – Chi. White Sox 2… The Astros came up with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good in their win over the White Sox. Carlos Correa homered. Yordan Alvarez lined a two-run single.
Minnesota 4 – TEXAS 2… The Twins made it four straight wins in dealing the Rangers their fourth straight loss. Byron Buxton connected for a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Kenta Maeda (3-2) surrendered two runs on five hits over 5-1/3 innings.
Detroit 5 – L.A. ANGELS 3 (10 innings)… Daz Cameron came through with a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning and the Tigers made it stand in beating the Angels. Miguel Cabrera had a couple of hits, including a two-run single.
SEATTLE 6 – Tampa Bay 2 (10 innings)… Shed Long Jr. unloaded a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Mariners past the Rays. Ty France and Luis Torrens hit solo homers.
INTERLEAGUE
Cleveland 2 – PITTSBURGH 1… Tylor Naylor singled home Eddie Rosario with a tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh inning and the Indians held on to edge the Pirates and salvage the series finale. Harold Ramirez opened the scoring with a fifth-inning homer.
