Shirley Marlene Hall

Shirley Marlene Hall, 81, of rural Novelty, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at the LaBelle Manor in LaBelle, Missouri.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 25, 1944, the daughter of William Lorenzo and Louise Marie Derscheid Paulsen.

She attended school in Novelty, Missouri and graduated from the Novelty High School in the Class of 1962.

On January 16, 1965, at the Locust Hill Church, west of Novelty, Shirley married Lester Leroy “Roy” Hall and to this union two children were born.

After their marriage they moved to Columbia, Missouri for a time before returning to the farm west of Novelty to make their home.

They attended church in Bethel, Locust Hill, Novelty and most recently Shirley attended the Knox City Assembly of God Church.

Most of her life Shirley was a farm wife and enjoyed all the jobs that farm life entails, but most of all she loved her family especially the grandchildren and great grandkids.

Shirley is survived by her children, Brian Leroy Hall of Novelty, Missouri and his special friend Joyce Klocke of Edina, Missouri, and Velva Jean and Greg Cody of Kirksville, Missouri; a brother, William Leroy Paulsen of Canton, Missouri; two sisters, Leona Anne DeVolld of Kirksville, Missouri, and Evelyn Joyce “Joy” Ennis of Florida; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hall of Edina, Missouri; grandchildren, Melanie and Jesse McNary of Lancaster, Missouri, Elizabeth and Wyatt Graham of Kirksville, Missouri, Emmett Cody of Kirksville, Missouri; great grandchildren, Lee Graham, Aurora McNary, and Sophie Graham; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Louise Paulsen; husband, Leroy “Roy” Hall; brothers-in-law, Harvey DeVolld, Morton Hall, and Donald Hall; and a sister-in-law, Louise Moyer and husband Joe Allen.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the family receiving friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. service time at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Locust Hill Cemetery, west of Novelty, Missouri.

Pastor Mike Myers will officiate and music will be provided by Paul and Marsha Burton.
