Nichole Renee Johnson made her way to her heavenly home on July 21, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Lonnie and Barbara Johnson. Nikki was born on August 19, 1976 in Grim Smith Hospital in Kirksville, MO. She graduated from Green City High School in 1994. On January 10, 1997, Nikki married Michael Lee McCarty and to this union, they had two sons. Nikki worked in the healthcare field her whole adult life and held various positions at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly as well as for various medical offices in and around the Kirksville area. At the time of her death, she was employed with Kirksville Allergy & Asthma in Kirksville.
Nikki never hesitated to lend a helping hand, give a hug and a smile for reassurance, and went above and beyond for someone in need. One of her passions in life was gardening and she loved to watch her flowers and garden grow. Nikki loved to watch basketball, was an avid Caitlin Clark fan, and loved to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals and KC Chiefs. Her devotion to her family stood out to many. Nikki was a great caregiver to her Grandma Jolene, volunteering to take care of her so grandma could stay in her home. She was a wonderful caregiver, mom, daughter, granddaughter, and sister. Her patients would brag about how well she did her job and the concern she showed everyone. Nikki had the ability to crack a joke at just the right time to lighten a serious moment. Her sense of humor will sincerely be missed. Giving gag gifts at Christmas became one of her joys because of the reactions she received. Halloween was one of her favorite occasions because she could dress up to scare unexpecting trick-or-treaters. Her laugh was one-of-a-kind like she was. Nikki loved her boys and didn’t miss their sporting events. Her devotion to her family meant everything to her. She always brought the family together and was often our entertainment. Nikki always led the prayer at family dinners. She was our rock and watched over us every day.
Nikki was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Elbert and Jolene Johnson, formerly of Green Castle, her maternal grandparents, William and Zula McVay, formerly of Novinger, and two uncles, Bill and Dan McVay. She leaves behind her parents, Lonnie and Barbara Johnson of Green Castle, her sons, Jarrett (and wife Lacey) and Jeremy (and fiancé Naydelin) all of Kansas City, two sisters, Missy (and husband BJ) Maloney of Liberty and Sunny Tipton of Green Castle. She will so miss teasing her four nephews, Brenner & Cade Maloney and Eli & Noah Tipton, as well as her niece, Teagan Maloney. Nikki is also survived by her Aunt Tonya and Uncle Randy Kiger of Green Castle, Uncle Jerol and Aunt Theresa Johnson of Green City, and Aunt Taryn and Uncle Brent Shafer of Kirksville, in addition to several cousins. Nikki will be tremendously missed by her family and friends, but we know she will continue to watch over us from the Lord’s house.
A service for Nikki will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City. A visitation is scheduled for one hour prior, starting at 2:00 PM.
