Everett Quinten Smyser

Everett “Quinten” Smyser, 89 of Lancaster, Missouri, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The son of Everett Phillip and Ada Belle (Chambers) Smyser, he was born in rural Glenwood, Missouri on June 30, 1935. Quinten graduated high school in 1953 in Queen City, Missouri. Quinten served his country briefly in the Marine Reserves. In 1956, Quinten was united in marriage to Martha Hartsock and to this union 5 children were born, Debbie, David, Mark, Kevin and Aaron. He was later united in marriage to Marie Brubaker on February 14, 1998 at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri.

Quinten is survived by his wife, Marie of Lancaster, Missouri; his children, Debbie Smyser (Mike Stutsman) of Kirksville, Missouri, Kevin (Millie) Smyser of Smithville, Missouri and Aaron Smyser (Talia Rodgers) of Greentop, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Tracy Goodson, Travis Tucker, Tyler Tucker, Tracy (Adrian) Mathews, Jordan Berry (Shawn Kelliher), Alexa Smyser (Dustin Schempp), Olivia (Daniel) Harris, Lincoln Smyser, Brenden (Alexis) Smyser, Joel Smyser, Abby (Albert) Enderle, Irelan Smyser and Harley Smyser; 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Edith Glenn, Esther Cypert, Virginia Melvin and Manley (Mary) Smyser; one brother-in-law, Keith Kerby along with many other extended family members and friends.

Quinten is preceded by his parents, Everett Phillip and Ada Belle (Chambers) Smyser; children, David Smyser and Mark Smyser and wife, Christy; one granddaughter, Kelly Gray; one brother, Payton (Juanita) Smyser; three sisters, Anna Lou (Sandy) Bird, Mary Belle (Donald) Durham and Nancy Kale Kerby; brothers-in-law, Earl Glenn and Robert Melvin

Quinten was an accomplished mechanic, jack of all trades and could fix anything and had an artistic talent.  Quinten worked as a logger, mechanic at Beeler Motor Company and owned and operated Smyser’s Garage.

Quinten’s passions were playing pitch, attending auctions, rebuilding/refinishing antique furniture and clocks, building/remodeling homes and being a pit crew race car mechanic for Smyser’s Racing Team.

Quinten lived a life defined by a hard work ethic, helping others and love for his family and friends. A generous person who never met a stranger. He turned off the engine and left the shop.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Quinten’s nephews, Brad Drummond officiating and a closing prayer by Sonny Smyser. Special music selections will be “
Cryin’ For Me,” “Goodbye” and “Something You Get Through.” Memorials have been established for the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Missouri.
