Patrick Mahomes was removed in the fourth quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 21-7 victory against the Cleveland Browns with an ankle injury. He did not return.
Mahomes was replaced by Carson Wentz and stood with his teammates on the sideline for the remainder of the game.
He was visibly limping off the field at the conclusion of the game.
Mahomes was hit on a number of pass attempts and was pressured 21 times, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. He was 19-of-38 for 159 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game.
After the game, Mahomes walked out of the locker room before getting on a cart to be “further evaluated on his ankles,” according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
Following the win and Mahomes’s postgame cart ride, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media about the ankle injury and provided the results of Mahomes’s X-ray.
“Patrick, his right ankle has been hurt, it’s not broken, but it’s sore,” Reid said. “He’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and then we’ll just have to see how he does.”
Xavier Worthy ran for a score and the Kansas City Chiefs finally didn’t have to sweat out the final minutes with a 21-7 victory over the mistake-prone Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Mahomes connected for TDs in the first half with Juju Smith-Schuster and Noah Gray as the Chiefs (13-1) built a 21-0 lead and then slogged their way through an ugly second half.
The Browns (3-11) tried to put up a fight, but had six turnovers.
