The Kansas City Chiefs declined to pick up the fifth-year option of Kadarius Toney ahead of Thursday’s deadline, according to various reports.
Toney was selected 20th overall by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was traded to Kansas City for a late-round pick during the 2022 season and helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII over the Philadelphia Eagles with a receiving touchdown and the longest punt return in Super Bowl history.
In three seasons, Toney has played just 32 games. He’s totaled 82 catches for 760 yards in those 32 games.
He missed four games in the regular season and three of the Chiefs’ four playoff games due to an injury. Toney took to Instagram Live on the day of the AFC Championship Game to refute the team’s injury report. That denial was later refuted by Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
